Limited parking, hard to turnaround. No special view -- can see up coast, up valley, and down to beach.

Pololu Valley Lookout is the opposite end of the Waipio Valley on the Big Island of Hawaii. We just stopped quickly at the top to see the views, although there is a path that goes down to the beach that you can take. We didn't have enough time, unfortunately, and the path was muddy due to recent rain, but I would absolutely return on a sunny day and make that hike. Despite that, the views from the top are fantastic!

Amazing hike with a nice black sand beach, Much smaller than Waipeo Valley. Our daughters 8 and yrs old hiked all the way down. To and fro the hike is roughly a mile, like 20 min each way. Carry water becuase the hike is steep with a lot of rocks and stones. Once you are down in the valley, you will enjoy the black sand full of crabs. There is a small river too. There are wooden swings attached to the trees that you can ride and its fun. There were sharks spotted at this beach at one time so there is a warning so be careful when you are swimming in the Ocean. A must in Hawaii!

The lookout is a fantastic spot, definitely worth checking out. From the top it's interesting, if you're up to making the long trek down to the bottom it's definitely worth it. It takes 30-45 minutes (longer on the way back!) to make it all the way down to the beach, and it has its challenges, but it's definitely doable even if you're not a mountain climber. Having walked down on a dry day, when the footing was fine, I would advise against going down on a wet day. But the views on the way down (plenty of places to stop and take photos) and at the beach are really worth it.

The view is wonderful, and the hike down to the black sand beach is a must. Unfortunately, many people have discovered this gem. So, there will soon be more parking, and probably vendors pushing their trinkets, so the sooner you go the better! Don't miss it.
