- Jim K5 contributionsWonderful, unique and engaging tour through our early entertainment historyTotally amazing guided history of dime museums and how they transformed the entertainment industry. The owner is a great storyteller and weaves the truth with entertainment to keep you engaged and smiling the whole time. - Tour486117524801 contributionBest secret in Augusta! My wife and I visited the Dime Museum while on an anniversary trip. All I can say is this place is AMAZING. I was entertained and educated all at once. Every time I thought it couldnt get any better.....Boom...a new secret door would open, and I was impressed all over again. The owner is engaging and delightful. I can't wait for the expansion!!?Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 March 2024
- David LAsheville, North Carolina39 contributionsWorth a DetourWe had a private tour with Peter and it was well worth the detour. Interesting curios, fascinating back stories, and the finale was a display of sword swallowing, which was all the more amazing from front row seats (there was no back row🥴). I guarantee it will be a memorable experience.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 March 2024
- SteveConyers, Georgia27 contributionsA very unique experience. Worth the moneyThis is a museum of the unusual. The closest thing I can think of is Ripley’s and P.T. Barnum. We arrived in the morning around 10am. You have to have reservations and we had sent a message the night before. When we got there we paid and then ushered into a dimly lighted sitting area. The owner told us about the museum and what was in it. Expect the unexpected. Most of the items were before 1920 and much older. The owner took us and explained the museum for us for over 2 hours. At the end Red took back the stage and gave us the history of side shows. He expertise was hammering a large nail into his nose and swallowing a sword. I am not kidding! So after 2.5 hours of having a personal tour we left. This place is a definite must see. If you carry kids, they need to be mature.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 March 2024
- Jenny C2 contributionsCan’t find enough adjectives to describe how fantastic a visit to Pexcho's American Dime Museum isWent out of my way on my drive up because I had to check something off my bucket list~ Had to see the world’s only 2 headed T Rex skeleton. Pexcho's American Dime Museum in Augusta GA is where you’ll find this & an unforgettable world of the American Dime Museum of the late 19th, early 20th century. By appointment only & led by founder Peter Excho, he himself is the biggest treasure of the museum. He will capture your curiosity & keep you amazed with his knowledge & wit. Give yourself at least 2 hours, & be prepared to be disappointed when the tour ends, “Always Leave Them Wanting More” & you will want more after you’re led thru the last magical threshold. Which is a good thing, because there is more~ you’ll also get a performance from the legendary Sideshow Entertainer & World Record Sword Swallower, John “Red” Stuart.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 3 May 2024
- Scott S2 contributionsDon't Miss ThisA truly unique (look up the word) place . So much cool stuff, with a personal tour from the man who curated it. No matter your age or education level, you will leave knowing a dozen things you didn't know. And to top it off after the tour we were treated to a performance by Blockhead and Sword Swallower Red Stuart. A man who's lived a fascinating life (buy his book there, it's a great read). If you find yourself anywhere near Augusta, Ga this is a MUST SEE!Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 June 2024
- Drus C2 contributionsBest Augusta Experience By Far!My husband and I happened to stumble into this place while they were open completely unaware of what it was. We were surprised at what a fantastic experience it was! Boasting to be one of the last dime museums in America, it's full of character through its many oddity exhibits, including a two-headed T-Rex! I was surprised at how informative it was as well. Many people have heard about Barnum and "Ripley's Believe it or Not", without knowing much more about the history of museums in the USA. The guide, Peter able to charismatically teach us a ton about the history of museums and side attractions through a variety of vignettes. The museum itself is full of personality, featuring many hidden doors and unexpected sights. Some of the comments and exhibits were hilarious! I was bursting out laughing at a particular one. I won't give away any surprises, so you will just have to come to see. In the end, we were able to be treated to see a live sword swallowing performance! Overall, the museum has a lot of heart and is worth seeing. Its family-owned roots and passion from the team are very apparent. I'm really glad I was able to see this, and I definitely recommend scheduling a tour to anyone reading this!Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 June 2024

It's hard to describe having a favorite thing about this trip. The outside of the building gives you the nostalgia of going to an attraction at the fair, just to flip you over and be greeted by the living attraction that is Peter Excho. Wow is all I must say, to the way he has taken care of these historical pieces of fantasy and bewilderment. From the taxidermy to the stage, each moment inside feels like you're going back in history. If you think that's a plus, the coffee is to die for. Never have I been blessed by a barista that manipulates the aromatic essence of a coffee bean and liquifies it into opulent magic with artistic presentation.
Pexcho's Dime Musuem is a national treasure that needs to be protected and preserved at all cost. Highly recommend for history buffs, and families.

Upon arrival at the museum I was intrigued and a bit intimidated by what lay beyond the open doors. The signage outside beckoning the onlooker in to view "The Strange" and "Bizarre". Our host, Peter Excho, met us at the threshold and my worries melted with his warm smile and welcoming demeanor. We spent the next hour and a half learning the history of the American Dime Museum with Peter as our personable and knowledgeable guide. What made this truly remarkable was this was more than a staunch lesson it was a recreation of the experience those in the early 1900's enjoyed and an origin story of many of the modern forms of entertainment we all enjoy daily.
I highly recommend this experience or as once said "Come one, come all".

Pexcho's American Dime Museum is the LAST one in the U.S. and it is here in Augusta, GA! It was so much fun ! I haven't laughed that much in such a long time. Such a unique experience ! It was a private tour, it was 2 hours long, with so many surprises along the way ( which I won't give away ), packed full of history, my three daughters were laughing and engaged the entire time !!!!! I don't want to say too much because I don't want to give too much of it away but think Circus, mixed with facts, mixed with laughter, mixed with YOU HAVE TO SEE IT TO BELIEVE IT . I will be going back to take my daughter's friends, my parents when they come into town, and other family members. It was really the laughter, family time, slap-happy, 2 hours away from this crazy world that we need and maybe your family will need just that too?

We had an absolute blast at Pexcho's American Dime Museum in Augusta, GA. I recommend EVERYONE visit as soon possible. If you are interested in Barnum's style of Dime Museum and the birth of Cabinets of Curiosities, Sideshows, and just regular museums; visit this place immediately.
Funny, informative, unique, safe, and well worth the money. Help the place survive the pandemic. Support local weirdos and safely get out of your goddamn house before you snap.
Not a lot of photos in my review, not because I wasn't allowed to take them, but because I was so enthralled by the owner's presentation during the tour that I didn't want to interrupt. Photos won't do this place justice. Just go. Trust me.

If you haven’t checked out Pexcho's American Dime Museum (no it isn’t a museum of dimes 😁) in downtown Augusta it is a must ! The last one in the world it’s amazing to have something so unique and so cool right here in the CSRA. We took our boys and it was an incredible experience! Peter, the owner was an absolute delight and we got lost in time as we learned about the history of P.T. Barnum, circuses, side show performers and were enthralled with all of the fascinating oddities and stories. We ended up being there 3 hours and our youngest who’s attention is usually quite short said it was awesome and he wants to go back every day! When we left we felt more like family and a part of something very special and we plan to go back many more times. The whole vibe from walking up to the building to leaving was magical, entertaining, and just resparked something that has truly been lost in the last few generations. It’s unique, one of a kind, and literally the only one left in the entire world and we have the privilege of saying it’s right here in our backyard, so make sure not to miss it! I don’t usually say this much about a place, but it was seriously just that cool. This is so much more than entertainment. This is history that if not passed on will be lost and forgotten. We seriously learned SO much! I feel like I have a wealth of knowledge that I’ll never forget now because of how interesting and mesmerizing the experience was. We felt privileged to have this experience and hope so many more locals and even people from all over the world will get to experience it as well. It will definitely be a must do anytime someone comes in town to visit.

The Dime Museum is a recreation of the old Dime Museums of the past. One of the first forms of popular entertainment. There is a great collection of oddities and artifacts that will thrill and amaze you. Peter is a knowledgeable & entertaining guide. Very enjoyable time spent with not much wear on your pocket book. I’m a cheapskate, so I appreciate good value for my dollars. You can also get a cold drink or a delicious cup of coffee. They have special events like side show performances, magic shows, burlesque, and local actors doing plays. Artists have exhibitions of their work there. With C-19 going on you probably need to make a reservation. Family friendly for sure. If you want to experience a different type of history lesson and be amazed at the strange & bizarre this is the place to go. It’s near to the Riverwalk & the Farmers Market...etc...
Come one- come all ! It is well worth the travel time to see many of these vanishing attractions. Just writing this has gotten me excited about a road trip to Augusta & the American Dime Museum.

Mr. Excho gave us an experience that rivals anything Augusta or the country can offer. A private tour with as much information about an item as he can possibly offer, with extreme charisma and passion. Rare oddities and gaffs galore in an inviting and somewhat creepy atmosphere and a grand performance at the end! I would post some pictures of some of the items and attractions, but that would devalue the experience as a whole. Go see them yourself, go meet Peter and the performers, and make SURE that this is something you do and not on the list that "we need to go sometime".
This is for weirdos, outcasts, history buffs, and anyone who wants to see something that they've never seen before. You will NOT be disappointed if you pay the small price of admission.
Tour lasted around 3 hours with sidetracked conversations but was full of oohs, ahhs and laughs. Will definitely go to again

I would highly recommend this museum. It’s like no other and accepts appointments so there are no worries about crowds. The tour is guided by the owner which allows for a more personable experience while roaming around and learning about the history of dime museums. Each item within the museum is unique and has a story. I feel you could go multiple times and learn something new each time. So fun!
