We went for the complete self-guided package. The outfitter provided: route plan, camping permits, kayaks, tent, sleeping sack and pads, kitchen, snorkel gear. The only thing we brought was food, water bottles, clothing. We camped on three different islands. The kayaks are all fairly modern sea kayaks (not BubbaBoats) from Wilderness Systems, Prijon, and the like. Life jackets were modern, fairly fresh, name brand. The paddles are a bit cheezy...plastic bladed, aluminum shaft, built by Aqua Bound. For those doing multi-day, un-guided trips, I suggest: (1) request the biggest boats they have available...we had Wilderness Systems 17.5 and a 16.0, and the 16.0 was a bit small and tender with gear, (2) when telling them about your route preference, be sure to mention both your miles-per-day and maximum-open-water-crossing distance...some of their standard crossing are really long, and (3) take a waterproof handheld marine band radio.

Incredible - from across the globe, these guys arranged a wonderful surprise for some friends of ours who were clients of theirs! Clearly their commitment to their customers extends way beyond the usual dreariness of much of the tourism industry. Unbelievable Irvin - we would happily recommend anyone your way 😀

We arranged to have kayaks for our entire stay - this allowed us to explore the nearby cayes and the bay between the peninsula and mainland. Irwin was very responsive and provided us with everything we needed. This area is so beautiful and paddling was an excellent way to explore.

Our 5 day kayakbelize trip was a bucket list trip and it met all of our expectations and more. We opted for 3 days guided and 2 days on our own. Of course the beautiful cayes, coral gardens and blue water were all we expected, it was the people that raised the trip from wonderful to fantastic. From the pre-planning help from Kim to the delightful shuttle service with Irvin and his little daughter, the logistics were handled with thoughtfulness and with our specific wishes in mind. But it was Eric our guide and Bahia (sp) our caretaker host on Ivan Caye that raised our trip above the expected. Eric was professional, knowledgable and friendly and following his advice on campsites, day trips, weather issues all helped meet our expectations safely. On top of it he added some successful trolling for mackerel and a couple of delicious fish meals. Our 2 days self guided days were spent on Ivan Caye and we're made very special by Bahia the Mayan caretaker along with Ginger and Shadow, the 2 mutts that kept the caye’s one raccoon out of the kitchen at night. Bahia's fresh tortillas, stories and generous warmth were really special. The snorkelling right off the dock was very good with turtles swimming past and a manatee hanging out around the coral at a nearby Caye. A couple of things to consider: Kayaking around the cayes is not like your river or lake. The distances are further that you think and the prevailing winds which seem to raise during the day can cause a trip out to a Caye in the morning a daunting struggle return in the afternoon. Eric provided a shuttle service in his boat which allowed us to make some trips we otherwise would have not considered. The shuttle service out to the cayes to start your trip and then to return is a wise choice from our experience. A lot of time, energy and potential for trouble can be saved by the shuttle. Apply bug juice, particularly if the wind is calm - sand flies are not very visible, nor do you feel them bite, but the itch and bites remain as a lasting reminder You can rent kayaks for the day from KayakBelize, and Eric runs sunset cruises and day trips. his sister runs Ems a small eatery on the boardwalk.
