Excellent Cabernet Sauvignon
Aug 2019 • Couples
My wife, daughter, and I toured one of the Neal Family Vineyards today. There was a beautiful sunny sky and the temperature was just right. The drive to Angwin from Napa was picturesque and enjoyable, especially along the Howell Mountain Road!
We arrived to an empty parking lot and
were met by two enormous but extremely friendly white German Shepherd dogs. Close on their heels was Jess Neal, a university educated third generation vintner of the Neal family.
Jess was friendly and knowledgeable and answered our questions and made us feel very comfortable.
We sampled some amazing wines, especially the 2013 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. We also enjoyed a butter smooth fruity olive oil that will be enjoyed with some homemade bread when we get home.
The winery is very beautiful and we will try to get back there soon.

Hidden gem in Napa
Oct 2017 • Couples
What happens when you make an appointment at this winery? You get to speak and taste wine with the winemaker, Gove. We had such a great time visiting this off the beaten path winery - one of our faves during this trip. Gove was very patient, sooo knowledgeable and a pleasant man who answered so many of our questions. Quality over quantity. Not massed produced wines. They really care about the art and science of wine making. Was just in awe. Hands down one of the best tasting cabernet in the valley. Will definitely go back for more! Bought cabs from 2005 to 2013. Biggest surprise was how much I enjoyed their Sauvignon Blanc which I typically don’t drink. Must go. Can’t miss this gem in Napa!!!

Great Experience and Amazing Wines
Apr 2017 • Couples
We arrived late for our scheduled appointment. Real late. No problem.... we were cheerfully greeted by the Owner, Mark, and enjoyed an amazing afternoon (into evening) tasting of some of the best cabernets in Napa Valley. The Zin and Petite Sirah were equally impressive. (These Neal wines were the absolute best wines we tasted... and we were at several high end wineries during our visit to Napa-Sonoma.) We asked lots of questions and learned a lot about the whole wine industry while we tasted 2006, 2007 and 2013 cabernets. We also tasted a 2001 that rocked! Ended up buying some of that and several other Cabernets that we will definitely enjoy on special occasions. The Quality vs. Price Rating on these wines makes them one of the BEST bargains in the valley if you like Cabernet. We will definitely be back!

Neal had great Howell Mountain wine
Apr 2017 • Couples
This is a little out of the way, but a pretty drive up Howell Mtn. They give you great directions and best of all, if you show up, the $25 per tasting fee is waived.
We had a tasting from the winemaker and he was really knowledgeable.
We ended up buying a bottle of their Howell Mtn Cab (not single vineyard) and their Rutherford Dust Zin which for the price we thought were their two best wines.
Beautiful grounds and great wine that is better than some of the more expensive wines we tasted at other Napa wineries. Give Neal a try!

Best stop of our trip
Mar 2017 • Friends
Neal's winemaker, Gove, was informative, courteous, patient (with our numerous questions) and a joy to visit with - plus, the wines were all very good - went home with the Petit Syrah, Zinfandel, Chardonnay and Cabernet! Well worth the "by appointment only" visit.

My husband loves Neal, so while in Napa, we scheduled a tasting. The winemaker gives the tour and the tasting so you can ask all kinds of questions. It is a beautiful winery, with excellent cabs.

had an appointment with gove(one of the winemakers). very laid back and knowledgable. the prices for the quality of the wines is incredible. where else are you tasting 2007 single vineyard wines with no tasting fee. these guys hold their wines for
a number of years before releasing them. these guys are all about the quality of the wine. no wine club, no tasting fees. check them out for some of the best wine in all of napa

We do love the wines
Feb 2016
We'd been to this winery 5 years ago and decided it was time to come back because we love this wine. Greg did our tasting, and it was just ok. He really didn't seem too happy to be there this day. We do still love the wines and will continue to buy them, but we may not go for another tasting.

Disappointed / Intruders
Apr 2016 • Couples
We recently visited Neal Family on Howell Mountain. This was a first visit to this area of Napa valley so we were excited to find a new experience. We passed on another winery to visit Neal. We were 10 minutes early and no one was present although the wine glasses were setup for our tasting. Their cave looked impressive, but we were not toured through it. The tasting was not warm and felt as if we were intruding on our servers day. We did buy some wine, but very unlikely we would ever go back. First experience like this in Napa after 15 years straight.

Great visit
Oct 2015 • Couples
We had a great visit. We arrived 10 minutes early from our appointed time, and had the best tasting. It was not rushed, the guy talked about anything we wanted to talk about, from the fire that happened close to Napa county to whether wineries are really collaborative or are rivals. We always buy wine from here when we go, and this was no different. We also got a tour of the wine barrel area as well as where they store the wine. We always will come here when we are in the area.
