- GuywilltravelToronto, Canada206 contributionsOutstanding food and wine tasting experienceWe were a party of 3 out to spend our afternoon wine tasting. This was the second of four stops on our ad hoc Waiheke Island winery tour. We arrived around 1 p.m. without reservations looking to do a wine tasting and lunch. Initially, we were told they were booked up. After looking profoundly disappointed, we were asked if a patio table would be ok. Perfect! We were promptly seated with menus and our server/wine guide for the proceedings came over to introduce himself (Brian). We were looking for a flight of red wines and we started discussing options. A few minutes later the first of 4 wines arrived complete with an introduction and history, and our order was taken. We had a fabulous lunch that included a selection of house cured meats and cheeses, octopus carpaccio, raw fish, Kasundi fry bread and salt baked beetroot . 3 more red wines followed with the attendant introduction. It was a fabulous afternoon of great wine, great food and outstanding service. Everyone was great at Te Motu but we want to send a special shoutout to Brian - he was outstanding! We HIGHLY recommend this winery for a fabulous afternoon of dining and sipping.Visited November 2022Written 18 December 2022
- Tri B2 contributionsGoodVisited for a wine tasting. $25 for four different wines, nice drop of wines. The venue was good, you have to walk from the main road for about 10 minutes. I was there by myself and there was another solo visitor that wanted to do wine tasting, We seated at different tables (barrel tables). The girl that served me was more interested to the other solo visitor, she was not sharing eye contact with me while she was explaining about the wine, she was more like talking to one person. Overall is good, maybe best to visit with a friend or more.Visited February 2023Written 7 February 2023

The wine... well I bought 6 bottles to take away, as they were divine. Would highly recommend it & will definitely be visiting again. We did the wine tasting, which consisted of 4 wines & can recommend the following off the menu: Sourdough bread Waiheke extra virgin olive oil Matangi beef tartare preserved cherries, potato Nose to tail cuts - Pork Caramelised banana custard, sorrel granita, citrus crumbleVisited February 2023Written 21 February 2023
- JEREMY B1 contributionGreat wine tasting experience! What a great wine-tasting experience. They take pride in the wine and our host was amazing. Definitely, a place to go to learn more about wine and what makes them taste different. Also, helps that they have some of the best wine that we tried that day.Visited April 2023Written 18 April 2023
- Wing C41 contributionsGo on - treat yourself to a fabulous wine tasting experience and lovely food at this beautiful vineyard! This was my first ever wine tasting experience and I was a little bit nervous, but I like wine, so gave it a try and oooooweee I am glad I did! The Shed provided the perfect venue on this rainy day - lovely, cosy and unpretentious atmosphere with good music. The staff were fantastic and did a great job talking about the vineyard and describing the different wines. You can choose to do the usual wine tasting or pay a bit extra and taste their premium wines - it's a no brainer if this is within your budget. Excellent wine and great food. A real treat!Visited May 2023Travelled soloWritten 4 May 2023

- Tim HLondon, United Kingdom51 contributionsTaste the authentic wines, not pretentiousness.Really enjoyed this tour - near the end of the day and the flights provided a broad selection of wines: tasting flight and the step through by years. Really informative discussion from the team without pressure. Real difference in wine compared to next door vineyards… Great atmosphere, you need to walk down the lane to get there, but worth it.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 November 2023

Referring to previous post "Kim C" who's comments were fact (we were part of the group). There was no “abuse/rudeness” to the staff - in fact the opposite with considerable calm and politeness in questioning the new policy of not splitting bills (never experienced in any reputable restaurant before). There was zero communication with other guests by any of the 6 dinner guests - not us being “incredibly rude and insensitive comments towards other customers” (quote ex Mr Dunleavy). Given the aggressive and factually incorrect response from the owner we'll share our experience and wont revisit ever again..

Is there a walking track between Te Motu and Obsidian winery?

Hi Astrid,
Thanks for your query. Yes, there is a walking track between these two properties. As it crosses private property it is important that you get clear directions from either Obsidian or Te Motu before setting off - the track is well marked and takes 15 to 20 minutes to walk.
Regards
