About
Our Cellar Door provides a wonderful opportunity to sample aged Waiheke Island wines that are not often readily available. One of Waiheke's oldest family-run estates, Te Motu was planted in 1989, with the intent to explore Waiheke's potential for producing exceptional, long-lived reds. The best way to understand Waiheke wine is to taste it. Bring the family and make an afternoon of it. Explore the Onetangi Valley or just stop and savour a glass or two as the sun sets over the ridge.

It was a scenic short walk to Te Motu Vineyard from our first port of call of the day, Stonyridge Winery. Rolling hills, dusty track, rows of vines and a hilltop villa almost gave the impression of being in Tuscany instead of Waiheke Island.

In such glorious countryside the cellar door came as a bit of a let down set as it was in a small courtyard with no views. The cellar door itself looked like an upmarket portacabin.

We were only having a wine tasting so perhaps there are other parts to the property which feature the landscape better.

We were offered a tasting flight of four wines for $20 per person. This featured a Dunleavy rose and a Dunleavy Cab/Merlot at $35 & $45 per bottle respectively and two critically acclaimed reds - Te Motu Kokoro 2014 and Te Motu 2014 at $85 and $140 per bottle respectively.

We were served each one individually by different members of staff who gave an explanation and left us for a while to enjoy before returning with the next one in due course. It wasn't overly busy however the more knowledgeable member of staff seemed to get stuck with two other guests and those serving us dealt with most of the others. Both these members of staff were very pleasant and the young Italian woman, upon finding we were Scottish, was enthusiastic to tell us about her love of the Scottish Highlands - very endearing.

Sadly we didn't find the wines were so much to our taste (the Te Motu Kokoro being our favourite of the bunch) and we didn't make any purchases. The winery do refund the cost of a tasting with each purchase in excess of $70.

Our next stop, within walking distance between the vines, was Tantalus Estate which was quite a contrast - clearly a large budget had been spent to establish its presence.

Great day had here at Te Motu. We were group of 6 and we'd made a reservation for 3.45pm but as our previous venue was closed and had neglected to tell us they couldn't honour our reservation we thought we'd try our luck arriving at Te Motu I think at least an hour early. They were more than accommodating, especially after we asked to switch to an outside table so we could enjoy the sun. Lovely venue, non intrusive staff who were more than happy to let us do our own thing, could've used more cheese on platter but I'd honestly say that anywhere!

We were a party of 3 out to spend our afternoon wine tasting. This was the second of four stops on our ad hoc Waiheke Island winery tour. We arrived around 1 p.m. without reservations looking to do a wine tasting and lunch. Initially, we were told they were booked up. After looking profoundly disappointed, we were asked if a patio table would be ok. Perfect! We were promptly seated with menus and our server/wine guide for the proceedings came over to introduce himself (Brian). We were looking for a flight of red wines and we started discussing options. A few minutes later the first of 4 wines arrived complete with an introduction and history, and our order was taken. We had a fabulous lunch that included a selection of house cured meats and cheeses, octopus carpaccio, raw fish, Kasundi fry bread and salt baked beetroot . 3 more red wines followed with the attendant introduction. It was a fabulous afternoon of great wine, great food and outstanding service. Everyone was great at Te Motu but we want to send a special shoutout to Brian - he was outstanding! We HIGHLY recommend this winery for a fabulous afternoon of dining and sipping.

During our Wine Festival Vineyard visits, Te Motu Vineyard went above and beyond to provide professional friendly service. Great food, superb wines and fun atmosphere.
Gorgeous views, yummy fresh oysters. Ryan was very attentive and went out of his way for us. Thank you. We'll be back again soon.

Visited for a wine tasting. $25 for four different wines, nice drop of wines.
The venue was good, you have to walk from the main road for about 10 minutes.
I was there by myself and there was another solo visitor that wanted to do wine tasting, We seated at different tables (barrel tables).
The girl that served me was more interested to the other solo visitor, she was not sharing eye contact with me while she was explaining about the wine, she was more like talking to one person.
Overall is good, maybe best to visit with a friend or more.

The tasting room is based out of a modified mobile home. They offer four Bordeaux style wines for NZ$20. They also have previous vintages for sale. Most of the tasting is outside (some covered and some some uncovered), but there is an indoor spot on the 2nd floor. They had two employees that were pouring samples and providing information about the wines, grapes and vineyard history. They have a mascot/dog that greets guests and wonders the grounds. Our favorite wine was their most expensive (Te Moto 2014). Plan to spend about an hour here if it is moderately busy. There is a shortcut from their entry road across a vineyard to the nearby Tantalus Estate.

This was my first ever wine tasting experience and I was a little bit nervous, but I like wine, so gave it a try and oooooweee I am glad I did! The Shed provided the perfect venue on this rainy day - lovely, cosy and unpretentious atmosphere with good music. The staff were fantastic and did a great job talking about the vineyard and describing the different wines. You can choose to do the usual wine tasting or pay a bit extra and taste their premium wines - it's a no brainer if this is within your budget. Excellent wine and great food. A real treat!

Great experience. Delicious food and wine, and even better service.

Highly recommend the raw fish and sour dough combo followed by the dry aged kingfish.

Better than the food was the wine and Annie's storytelling. We started with a delightful 2019 Syrah (which apparently wasn't on the menu.) We then finished things off with the tasting experience. Where we were given the special treatment of the 2012 Te Motu (great stuff) and then the 1999 on our way out. Thank you also to Brian.

Thanks Rob and Abbie

The Shed at Te Motu is our absolute favourite. The menu is delightful and the team are a dream - checking in to make sure everything is OK but never intrusive.
We have been here many times over the years and it never fails to delight us.

What a wonderful lunch!
Everything just came together with really friendly service, fantastic food and delicious wine.
The tapas styled food really tasteful and very well combined - accompanied by the 2013 Te Motu this was just perfect.
Staff continuously paid attention - even played a round of cards with our children.
If you get the chance visit this great place!
