About
Goldie is the name of our boutique vineyard on beautiful Waiheke Island. Here we create character wines that draw on the knowledge and experience of Kim and Jeanette Goldwater who founded winegrowing on Waiheke Island in the 1970’s and produced iconic wines from this vineyard over many decades. We host The Goldie Room Vineyard Cafe, The Tasting Room, and the University of Auckland Goldwater Wine Science Center and are a fabulous venue for your wedding, conference or special event.

Pioneering winery has academic connection
May 2021
This pioneering winery dates from 1978, making it the oldest winery on the fabled Waiheke, New Zealand's island of wine. The winery overlooks scenic Putiki Bay. The winery was established by the Goldwater family, and it now hosts the University of Auckland Wine Science Centre. This boutique estate makes wonderful wines; it also has great ocean views.

An incredible place to get married!
Mar 2021 • Friends
I had my wedding at Goldie Estate March 2021 and it was one of the best days of my life.

From day one Charlie was an absolute dream and made our wedding day so easy to plan.

Leslie put together the most beautiful menu and over a week on from the wedding my friends and family still comment on how amazing the food was.

Nothing was too much trouble and Charlie went above and beyond for my 91 year old grandmother-in-law which was extremely kind and thoughtful.

We cannot wait to return in the future and considering my husband has already purchased his second case of wine from the Cellar door I think Goldie will continue to have a warm place in our hearts for years to come.

Huge thank you to Charlie and the team and we look forward to seeing you all soon!

Highly recommend!

Wedding ended up in Court
Jan 2020
Myself and my husband flew to New Zealand from the UK to attend my best friend's wedding. The ceremony was held at Goldie Estate. We were under staffed and the waitresses were inexperienced.

Throughout the ceremony there were groups of tourists getting in the way and we had to tell them to leave because no one from Goldie Estate was managing this. It was really sad to see my best friends vows disrupted.

After the ceremony a waitress dropped a tray of rose down my best friends dress. The dress turned pink and was ripped from all the shattered glass. You would have expected the waitress to be mortified and apologise but instead she told my friend to "chill out" and ran away. Her behaviour was unbelievable.

My best friend had to spend the rest of her wedding day in a stained and ripped dress. Goldie Estate should be ashamed of themselves for the way they treated my friend on her wedding day.

Unfortunately after the wedding my friend and her husband had to go through 6 months of court disputes to get the wedding dress repaired from the extensive damage.

I am thrilled that they won their case. Goldie Estate is NOT a place I would recommend to anyone.

Really disappointing experience at Goldie
Jan 2020 • Friends
I was a guest at the wedding of a really close friend and I have witnessed the multiple disturbances of our ceremony and people taking photos.
The waitress has dropped a tray of wine down my friend dress. There was only one person serving the canapés so the food was slow and the quality of the food wasn't great.

Poor
Jan 2020 • Family
I was the Maid of Honour at a wedding ceremony held at Goldie Estate. It was heart breaking for me to see how badly they spoke to the bride at the dress rehearsal and on her wedding day. Fran and Leslie were unhelpful and made her feel like a nuisance for asking questions. Their bad attitude continued even after the waiting staff threw a tray of champagne glasses over the bride! The newlyweds has to go to court for the money to dry clean the dress which they haven’t paid and are now in civil debt. Unbelievably poor ownership and management.

Hi Lucy, As per our response to Rebecca’s review, we will absolutely do the right thing and follow through with the court’s final decision. However, because this is still an ongoing case, we are unable at this time to engage in further dialogue over email or by phone, which we hope you understand. Thank you, BlackStorm + Goldie Estate

Beautiful location - whether wedding or picnic!
Jan 2020
My husband and I got married at Goldie Estate just over a year ago. We initially looked at it for the stunning views - but picked it for the people! I could not rate the team more highly - everyone we dealt with was so helpful and accommodating - even helping to craft the structure of the day.

Goldie Estate also do the most incredible gourmet picnic baskets (for 2, but would probably feed 4!). You can enjoy stunning food to match the stunning views, at your own pace and with picnic blankets and free range of the gorgeous venue. We've decided to make picnics at Goldies a wedding anniversary tradition :).

Awful customer service
Dec 2019
We arrived and were told to go sit outside for a tasting from the man inside the building. After sitting for 20 minutes, we asked someone if we could have a tasting. She said we had to go inside--ugh! Finally we were given a tasting, it took forever and the wine was nothing special. The view was great, but why waste your time. Unfortunately, we were unable to go to the next winery because this visit too so long.

Idyllic wedding
Jan 2020
My son and daughter-in-law had their wedding here. Such a beautiful location. We had perfect weather, canapes, followed by a wonderful meal with great wine. We then had dancing in the courtyard, highly recommend to other people looking for a perfect venue

Laid back and friendly
Jan 2020 • Friends
Great vineyard that offers quality wines and tasty but limited food selection. We had a sharing platter which was half vegan to cater for some of our party. This was suggested by the staff who were helpful and friendly.
There are lovely views over the bay and the whole experience was great. Well worth a visit.

The BEST winery ever! LOVED the tasting here!
Dec 2019 • Friends
We were so fortunate to have our tasting guide be Gemma. She is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about this winery! We learned half way through the tasting that she normally works in the office on the business side, but WOW she makes the tasting experience magical so hopefully she spends as much time out front with customers as possible!

We loved the backstory of this winery, learning about the Goldstein family and their contribution to the University which is now training the next generation of wine makers.

The wines here are outstanding! Each has a special complexity and flavor. Our favorite (which we purchased to bring back to USA) is the Viognier Premier/Reserve. Such a crisp white wine that you could feel the grape blossom in your mouth.

The setting here is so beautiful- you can bask in the sun, enjoy the tire swing, or climb up the hill as you savor the wine. The day we were there a couple had a “surprise wedding” (invited the guests to a tasting and surprised them with a casual wedding under the big tree). Spectacular!

Thank you Gemma! And hope you have fun with the wine rating app we showed you. Your wines surely rate the highest!
