This museum is a six story treasure box built in1998. It combined the former National Museum and the National Art Gallery collections. You can take an elevator to visit the floors you are interested in. I learned so much while I was there!

I am not into museums but I stayed here for over two hours. A search service is provided if you want more information. The volunteers were locals with a genuine care to help. Thank you!

This is a well setup/presented museum that does a great job of putting local history on display. Of particular interest is the focus on whaling history with plenty of artifacts, pictures and information panels. If you're lucky there may even be an ex-whaler there to...More

As a previous reviewer said, there aren't a lot of attractions to see in Picton especially when it's raining, but this is well worth an hour of your time. It appears to be run by enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers who are happy to answer questions....More

There are not too many attractions in Picton but the Heritage & Whaling Museum is well worth 30 minutes of your time - particularly, if you want to see a wide range of local artefacts. Entrance fee is a very reasonable NZ$5 per adult and...More
