Delectable Cheesy Delicacies!!
Nov 2021
Not only can you view the cheese being made, you can taste it on site and purchase small pieces perfect for a holiday at home evening cheeseboard selection. Have now tried several varieties... Wow will be back here again and when I need I can order from the website.. Always looking for new ideas and suggestions... I suggested Havatti with walnuts (a Danish French type cheese) let us see if they make it... it would be yummy as they had locally grown sacks of walnuts for sale.. Also many different accompaniments for the cheeseboard. As we purchased some cheddar I also purchased some balsamic pickled onions.. Yummy

Handcrafted cheeses from locally sourced milk
Oct 2021
A drive over to picturesque Akaroa is not complete without stopping on the way to the cheese factory.
Operating since 1895 the milk is locally sourced and handcrafted using cloth and wax to mature.
If you want to see cheese making in operation you will need to be there by midday. With huge viewing windows you will be able to watch the cheese makers in action.
Tastings are on offer and then you may select from the wide range of tasty cheeses to suit all taste buds.
Gift boxes are also available or you may just purchase for yourself.
My favourite is Peppered Harvati with a bite.

Good for cheese sample packs
Jun 2021 • Family
Would be even better on the days they are making cheese, but is a good spot to buy little off-cuts to try cheeses you might not be familiar with.
We were traveling on the Transalpine train the next day and picked up a couple of sample packs to take with us.

Rather odd
May 2021 • Friends
Called in for cheese tasting & that's what we did for as long as we liked & as much as we wanted as no one around to care!

Eventually a staff member walked through but he was off to his car. Then a lady came in, spoke maybe two words to us. We did buy some cheese but no staff cared either way.

Enjoyed the cheese
Feb 2021
We stopped on the way to Akaroa to sample some cheese. I was a little disappointed with the selection of cheese available but I did buy some Masdaam cheese that I hadn't tried before and also some very nice cumin spice cheddar.

While nothing special at this shop, I would still visit again.

Good place to stop and buy local fare
Sep 2020 • Friends
Stopped on way to Akaroa to buy some local cheeses.
Due to Covid L2 status only 5 people were allowed in the shop at once so there was a queue outside
Bought some yummy pepper cheese and others.
There is facility to sample about 5 different cheeses at the counter plus depending on timing you can see cheese being made out the back.
I would consider this just a shop as opposed as a thing to do.
Worth a 10 min stop en route to Akaroa if you want to support local.

cheese factory and shop
Jan 2020
On weekdays you can watch cheese being made, on the Sunday not.
There is a shop where you can taste and buy cheese - go for the ODD cuts, they are far cheaper.

Disappointed
Oct 2019
I was expecting a lot more from this place which I had read so much about. It was just a small shop hidden at the back of a factory off the main road. There were 3 choices of cheeses for tasting cut into tiny pieces with no one to explain what they were. The cheese making had finished for the day and the factory was being washed down, it was before lunch! There were a number of items for sale that can be found in any good supermarket. The off cuts of cheese were a good bargain.

A Hyped Place - can be avoided
Jun 2019 • Couples
They were more interested in selling the Cheese rather than telling us about their specialty. Didint find anything great here. Most of the stuff appeared to be commonly available. Since our Coach had stopped here, we decided to pick 2 different flavours of Cheese and found them reasonably OK.
