We stopped here briefly as part of a bus tour around Akaroa's highlights. We were given a brief explanation of how the Cheese factory operates and given the opportunity to taste their product. I really liked the Havarti cheese they make.
We visited as we drove on a day trip to Akaroa. The ladies in the shop were very friendly. There are samples of three cheeses available. Through the glass window it was possible to see the cheesemakers at work. There is also a video of...More
Good place to stop in at for anything cheesy; they make their own stuff there and along with a lot of other local produce, there is a fair selection.

The street sign was huge, I was expecting a lot, but its just a small house with some cheese in refrigerator. There were some samples, but the cheese were not that cheap. But it was a good toilet break on our 2 hour trip from...More
Small cheese shop which also holds tastings. A few selections of cheese to buy. Cheese making can be seen through the back shop although none ongoing on our visit. Would not have missed much had we not stopped.
On our way back from Akaroa we did a quick stop at Barrys Bay Cheese. This is a great place to come to if you want to stock up on their lovely range - Their peppered Havarti is definitely top of the list.
At the bottom of the steep decline into Barry's Bay, this small cheese factory is situated in a picturesque spot over looking the bay. A small sample of their produce is available for tasting and there is a window to view the making process
