Fabulous Fisherman’s Bay
Well worth the drive over if you like gardens.

The hosts were very friendly and welcoming.

It was family friendly and they brought out games and toys for our young children to play with.

The gardens were loved and well taken care of.

We spent two hours here exploring and enjoying a complimentary coffee in their barn afterwards.

Lovely views of the cliffs and ocean.

Very picturesque.

Fortunately the owner of my hotel suggested that I visit these gardens.
The owner was about and she is so warm, charming and helpful.
What she has created is simply marvelous. She is quite a genius.
The location of t he gardens is also magnificent with many water views.
The variety of flowers and shrubs is great.
Thank you for a marvelous experience.

Jill and Richard Simpson are a couple who have turned their farm into a magnificent garden. This is a large, varied, and absolutely magnificent garden. It is really a well coordinated group of gardens that will thrill for a visit of a couple of hours. Indescribably beautiful.

Just about an hour away from Otautahi if you go by way of Dyers Pass and Gebbies Pass at the end of the world overlooking the turquoise sea a wonderful garden lay basking in the morning sunlight;
Situated on high bluffs is the jewel of Jill the jardinier.
When we arrived their unbeknownst to her husband as I parked my car, he was trimming away at the verge. When he realized that something was amiss, he turned about and broke out in laughter at his own in-attention.
He was most welcoming and full of jovial laughter.
Walking down a floral corridor of fragrant flowers, like some old world sylvan pathway one arrives at these giant Kali faced Hydrangeas with their Alba-gentian neighbours, a sight only to a-maze one.
If you love Poppies the way I do then this garden is a good place to visit. And as I looked over their spent heads the turquoise sea was shimmering far below and further on the deep blue ocean met the rim of the world. This gives a different ambience to a garden; one can only understand when you visit it.
A palette of wonderful yellows, oranges and blues dance in the sea breeze and while meandering down crooked paths over-shaded by tall Smoke Bush you arrive at a part of the garden where Jill has begun something new.
I could be botanical and name you many floral varieties growing thick in this garden but what good would that do; you may say, oh! I don’t like those flowers, or oh! I think I’ll give this garden a miss…
That would be a grave error, go now, while the Winter is still miles and miles and miles away.
Though we are at mid-Summer there is still plenty to experience in this garden there at the end of the world like some misanthropist heaven. I could swear I heard Thomas Hardy’s voice sweeping through the tall soughing Pines.

PS. And if it’s really torrid one can always get an ice cream not too far down the mountain in Akaroa at Sweet As Bakery, if you into that sort of cold

What to do when in it's windy in Akaroa and the sea is uninviting? Drive around the bays on the Scenic drive and you will find gems like Fishermans Bay Gardens. This garden is a testament to hard work and good planning. It includes both native and other plants, with stunning views of the surrounding rugged and windswept hills and bays. Friendly owners. It has a entry fee and for gold coin donation you can have a cup of tea and a sit down. Part of the road is gravel and steep - so not suitable for campers or caravans, but no problem for a car if you take it easy, and be prepared for two way traffic.

Absolutely stunning garden hidden away on Bank's peninsula. We were lucky enough to have the garden to ourselves the day we visited. Dramatic coastline views on the drive in from akaroa. Would recommend 4 wheel drive vehicle

This is an unusual attraction. It is a magnificent garden cultivated over the years by the owner. She gives the garden great care and it shows. It is a remarkable accomplishment. It is situated on their farm, high above the Pacific Ocean. It is one of the first places in New Zealand to see the morning sun! The view is incredible. We enjoyed a picnic lunch overlooking the garden and the ocean below, advance arrangements were made for this and we brought our own picnic. Although it is a bit off of the beaten track, it is worth the trip.

I loved this garden - we went there as part of a Banks Peninsula Garden Tour - it's the product of a very creative mind. It's fabulous as a source of garden inspiration, even if your own patch isn't quite the size of this one. It's really out of the way so you do have to consciously seek it out but it is so worth visiting. The views out to the open sea and the coastline are spectacular and the planting are deft and elegant - right plant, right place,

This little slice of paradise is well worth the trip out to the end of the coastline. Amazing planting with rest areas throughout so colourful and beautiful to walk through. And Jill is a most gracious and welcoming host. Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden.
