This was recommended to me by other Akaroa visitors. Hadn't planned to go as I'm from Christchurch, have been to Akaroa many, many times and assumed (wrongly) that l already knew most of it. Thoroughly enjoyed the displays at the museum but IMO the most...More

A great collection of antiquities and memorabilia celebrating the arrival of the colonist to Akaroa. Especially love looking in the windows of the old cottage.

SOMEday the part damaged by the earthquake will be open again, but still go to this small museum. The part still open has a wealth of good stuff, and the staff are knowledgeable and helpful.

Clearly under redevelopment. Quite a modern feel, and becoming multimedia. A good 20 minute video with the history of the area.
