I stayed in the cabins at Flea Bay (some in tents) with my French class. We did two walks (a local one, and one in Misty Peaks Reserve), kayaking, making penguin houses, and visiting penguin houses. It was truly an amazing experience and our guides spoke French (we were a French class staying). There was also sheep, goats, geese, seals, and lots of birds. It wasn't too cold or hot, although it was cold at times. Our guides were so nice and always welcome to help us. There is no service at the cabins, but it was perfect since we didn't have that distraction. I would seriously recommend this to anyone, especially big groups.

What a wonderful experience. The views on the way to the bay were unbelievable. Sunset over Akaroa is a. The interesting and highly professional guiding to the life of these adorable Penguins was highly appreciated. Knowing that our fee helps found this wonderful place made us very happy. Thank you for your great job!

We were very lucky to stay here for 2 nights and we had the best experience ever! Sue picked us up and she was fantastic, telling us everything about the history of Pohatu, the area, the family business, the light house etc. She took pictures of us and dropped us off at the track, while she dropped our luggage off at our accommodation and even put our stuff in the fridge, which was very much appreciated! We stayed in the Gypsy Wagon which was lovely and quirky and we loved all the funny sheep around. The kitchen was amazing and looked quite new, same for the toilet/showers. The evening penguin tour by Sue was great and we saw heaps of penguins in the water and on the rocks. We heard the sounds of the penguins at night as well, which was very special. The next morning we met Ben for our sea kayak nature trip and that was amazing, we saw lots of (baby) seals and penguins on the rocks. After feeding the cute sheep, he took us to the evening penguin tour as well and he was very professional, funny and informative and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. We were lucky to go kayaking again the next morning and we even saw Hector Dolphins around our kayaks as well this time, wow! We were amazed what this (extended) family does for the penguins in this area and we were very fortunate to have been part of this experience. We will be back!

My wife and I have just completed the overnight experience with the sea kayaks in the morning. This was a truly impressive trip for us, from the knowledgeable guides, the native forest walk, penguin spotting, the beautiful, clean and comfy accommodation in a magical bay, topped off in the morning with sea kayaks, penguins, seals and even Orcas! Thank you to all the team for looking after us, and to the amazing conservation work by Shireen and Francis and their helpers. If you are a kiwi and have never visited this gem in your own back yard, now is the time to support a truly worthwhile experience. Craig & Lisa
