We hiked in and spent the night in Penguin Cottage. We were the only ones there that night so had the whole place to ourselves which was magical. The 4WD part was beautiful and then he dropped us off and we hiked in. It took us 2 hours to do the full distance. It was stunning. It was all downhill so a bit hard on the knees! But we were fine. There were streams, waterfalls, pools, and so many native trees and birds. Then when we got there we did the penguin tour. That was fantastic. We saw the little white flippered penguins so close up! Our guide was very informative and passionate about the penguins! The night sky was unbelievable! It was worth being there just for that alone! We had a very comfortable night sleep. Next morning we did the kayak trip. We had another very passionate and informative tour guide. We saw so many NZ fur seals! We are so glad we added this part to our trip! We really recommend this company and this whole trip.

Hi Maria, Thank you so very much for your detailed time with us. So nice to see that you've enjoyed the whole trip from beginning to end. We might suggest to future clients to bring some walking poles for the bush walk. We're indeed very fortunate with the sky and absolutely no light pollution once at Pohatu. All the best. Kindly, Kevin.

All the family enjoyed the trip. A lovely drive over the hill to Flea Bay followed by a guided kayak trip to see penguins and seals. This was a reminder to me of touring in New Zealand 25 years ago. Private tours by groups of enthusiasts that know their stuff and are keen to share their experiences rather than part of a slick tourist venture. Fantastic to see that once more. Couldn't recommend it more highly. And, by going on a tour you are helping to fund a better lifestyle for the penguins.

My family and friend had a magical time visiting the Pohatu penguins on their evening tour. Our guide, Benoit, was clearly passionate about the little blue penguins and shared his knowledge with us freely. From the van ride over to Pohatu with photo stops on the way to donning camouflage gear and binoculars, we were well informed and prepared for our visit. Then, peeking at penguins in their nesting boxes and observing them swimming in to the shore from their fishing expeditions was simply magical. Highly recommend this fantastic tour and insight into the conservation work of the team.

Loved our 24 hour package experience, having seen the Country Calendar programme. Covid kept daughter out of Aotearoa for too long and with only having 5 days with her, I chose this to reconnect her to her roots. We took the French Connection shuttle to Akaroa. Kevin drove expertly on a single lane steep gravel road to the secluded bay. Next thing we were sea-kayaking with him, then I walked up a hill. The crib was the real deal, and daughter hadn't seen the milky way all her years overseas. Kevin's enthusiasm for conservation is a delight. His 'scenic tour' conducted in total fog on the second day was so funny. We knew there would be no penguins at this time of year. that didn't matter at all. Just made us eager to return to do the package experience again.

Hi Melanie, What a beautiful way to spend time with your daughter after tough covid times! You got it, that is what we are all about: reconnecting people with Nature's treasures with no light (nor technology) disruption. We hope to see you again so you can also enjoy viewing some penguins ;)
