The Kids and we were very curious to see the Alpacas and decided to visit the farm on our way back from Akaroa. A farm on top of the hills with a breathtaking view of the sea and bay. The tour started with a briefing of the animals on the do's and don't' as well as the differences in the... More

I came across information about this farm in one of the booklets in our hostel and said immediately that I must see them. We booked a tour (response of the owner was immediate) and couple hours later we were on our way. The road to the farm is quite steep and is one way - maybe a bit tricky if... More

We booked the farm tour on the day we stopped @ Akaroa for our cruise. We got picked up & dropped off from the wharf, the farm tour is amazing, my boys had so much fun to have close contact with alpacas, feeding the alpacas, the view from the farm is incredibly beautiful! We also saw a baby alpaca which... More

We saw this farm tour off of the Christchurch and Canterbury booklet. I wanted to learn more about Alpacas and what they are farmed for and how they are treated. Reading reviews about this, it was indeed a steep drive to the farm from the main road, not best for larger camper vehicles or trailers. We drove a Toyota Rav... More

Did you know that the best way to tell if a female is impregnated is when she spits at the face of the male that just impregnated her?! This one only one of the heaps of fact that we learned during our absolutely amazing tour at Shamarra. And how cute were those baby alpacas running toward us?! We have plenty... More

Very informative tour with lots to see and learn. Bit of a steep drive up to the property but well worth it. Complementary drinks available.

Frank picked us up from the port. It was a lovely twenty minute drive to his farm. As we drove up the steep slope to the farm, the views of the harbour is spectacular. His daughter Alex did a short introduction on Alpacas and their fur. After that, we were briefed on how to properly pet the alpacas. He were... More

The Shamarra Farm is really worth visiting! The Family has more than 100 Alpacas in all kinds of colours. After an introduction you get to take pictures & feed the Alpacas. The atmosphere is relaxed & the Family Takes care that visiting groups are not too big and not overwhelming for the animals. You Are allowed to touch them, if... More
