About Shamarra Alpaca Farm Tours
If you’ve ever dreamed of escaping to a place of warm hugs and postcard-perfect surroundings, welcome. A Shamarra Alpacas Farm Tour is an unparalleled opportunity to get up close and personal with alpacas, learn about this loving animal, and create some memories with friends and family in a stunning location. You’ll find your new furry friends here in a beautiful harbour on the slopes of an extinct volcano and overlooked by craggy volcanic hills. Shamarra Alpacas is just over an hour’s drive (73km) from Christchurch Central, and only a 20 minute trip from the historic seaside village of Akaroa, which is worth visiting for its culture and architecture alone. Our panoramic views of Akaroa harbour and the rolling hills and peaks of the surrounding valleys are breath-taking, and will make every one of your selfies with an alpaca post-worthy. We are open year round, with the scenery changing beautifully through each season and the alpacas staying cute throughout.

This is great value for money, the alpacas, the scenery, the guides were all fabulous. We had a lovely visit yesterday, the alpacas were friendly and gorgeous. The farm is set in the most wonderful spot overlooking akaroa and banks peninsula. Our guides were knowledgeable and so friendly. This spot is well worth visiting for sure, we were impressed.

What a sweet discovery this was on our way to Akaroa. Our host couldn’t have been more gracious and whilst we didn’t want to do a tour we did want to support the local vendors. Our host talked us through all merchandise and was so knowledgeable to the point where we spent way more than intended because it was all so beautiful and we are delighted with our purchases. Added to that we got the chance to visit the alpacas and they were so much fun! And we can’t resist thus but Al Packer told us never to get him or his mates up with Banana Llama

Such warm and friendly guides. They were very knowledgeable and knew each alpaca by name, and could tell us of their background and personalities too. It was awesome getting up close and feeding the animals. Our kids soon came out of their shell and warmed to the alpacas - which were very tame and friendly. They had their favourites - and so did the alpacas! We had a great reception and were well catered for. Thank you. It would be a good idea to pop on a jacket when out in the paddock, since the wind can be a bit cool up on the higher ground.

Kia ora, thank you so much for your review of your time at Shamarra Alpaca Farm! We love seeing kids enjoy their time with the baby alpacas (cria) and getting more confident with them as the tour goes on! Thank you for the suggestion of bringing a windbreaker on the tour, the wind can be cold even in the Summer months. We hope to see you again soon! Thank you again, The Shamarra Alpaca Team
