About
We offer one day cooking classes for small groups using fresh local, seasonal ingredients. Our one day scheduled classes are mainly demonstration where you will recieve a folder with the recipes and the chef will demonstrate each dish from start to finish. Everyone is then seated at the large dining table and eats each dish with matching local wines. Our classes generally run from 10 - 4pm. We also offer private classes and corporate team building days and these are tailor made to suit your needs.

French cookery class
May 2021 • Friends
My friend an I attended the French cookery class and had an amazing experience! Learnt so much, then ate an incredible meal with endless wine. The small class size made it easy to ask questions and Ant, Lou and Leanne were super engaging and had answers for all sorts of odd (and dumb!) questions.
The weather was awful and they wouldn't let us walk back to our accommodation , bundling us into the car, when they were clearly busy cleaning up.
100% reccommend this experience.

Have just completed my 2nd class with Lou, Ant and Leanne. Heavenly...A Day in France.
I am moving my way through the classes, and then will probably start over again. The Akaroa Cooking School has become one of my 'Happy places"...absolutely love it.
So, so well done, world class...already looking forward to the next class I go to...and all in the setting of beautiful Akaroa.
Thankyou Guys...just wonderful.

6 hours of food & wine indulgent bliss
Feb 2021
My #1 favourite thing to do in Akaroa. 6 hours of food & drink indulgence with heaps of tips n tricks with recipes easy enough to make at home. Ant & Lou put on a great show, everyone enjoyed themselves immensely. Class sizes are typically 15-16 of like minded people.

First cooking school experience and am hooked!!
Oct 2020 • Couples
This was my first cooking school experience and we had booked the Italian course which made it just as exciting.

Ant and Lou explained how the day was
going to work and we got straight into it. There was 15 students, Ant and Lou and Leanne. What a well oiled machine!!

Hats off to Leanne. As we know, chef/s are only as good as the support. Neither Ant or Lou had to ask Leanne what to do or what to bring, it just happened. You are a gem Leanne.

The explanation throughout the day of how to cook, prepare and source product was so informative. I took so many notes!!

Then had a quick break and sat down at the 2 dining tables which over look the Akaroa harbour. Just perfect.

The food matched with the wine plus a chance to shop in the kitchen supply shop onsite (also Leanne’s department) gave us the opportunity to talk with like minded travellers and cooks and also ask the hosts questions.

Perfect venue, perfect education with perfect hosts. You guys rock!!!

See you soon. If we can get a booking that is!! So busy.

Well done.

great cooking experience

Watching Lou and Ant take you through the preparation, explanation and engagement in cooking was truly a delight. Did this as part of a shore excursion from a cruise ship and highly recommend if you like to cook or eat.

Most amazing location

A group of friends and I went to the cooking school and the days class was “ Taste of the Med “. I hadn’t been before so didn’t know what to expect. We were greeted at the door and given a name badge then offered tea and coffee. Lou and Ant introduced themselves and made us feel very welcome. There were 2 rows of seating and we could see the cooking bench well. There was also a mirror on the ceiling pointing down so you could see in the pots. So you are not cooking yourself you sit and Ant and Lou take you through a lot of dishes. They loved questions and answered all of them and offered lots of tips and tricks. We stopped for a wine and a break then more demo and then finally you are seated and you eat all the yummy food at the table accompanied with wine matches. This was a lovely way to spend a day. The harbour is right across the road. The view is awesome. We left feeling like we had new friends with Lou and Ant. I’d love to go again when they do Italian. And if you’re gluten free let them know they can accommodate that.

Our Day in Italy was Delizioso!
Jun 2019 • Couples
A huge thank you to Lou and Ant for a fantastic day of Italian culinary treats. A great relaxed atmosphere, well organised, lots of tips and tricks demonstrated and the cherry on top was enjoying the delicious food created (with matched wines) with other foodie fanatics. Plus you get to take home the recipes! Highly recommend!

The Best Value Day of Delicious Entertainment
Apr 2019 • Couples
Are you seeking something to do for a day? Are you seeking a present for an anniversary/birthday/Christmas? Are you (or the perspective recipients) in Canterbury or going to be in Canterbury NZ? You cannot do better than book a day at Akaroa Cooking School. We have now delighted in 11 'school' days with Lou and Ant. We have learned soo much and delighted in the food that we have enjoyed on each day, and have also had such fun reproducing the dishes....and even tweaking them, to our tastes, which I know Lou and Ant would appreciate.
If you want to learn and love the much varied cuisine of New Zealand and around the world you cannot do better than delight in a day in Akaroa and one of the best cooking schools in the world. Don't take my word for it, see the Lonely Planet list of best cooking schools.
