Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This dear little building was once the local council offices. The solid 19th century furniture remains. Full of books - many for sale.
Best of all is that during opening hours a friendly, knowledgeable citizen will be at the desk and will answer any questions about Akaroa you care to ask. Have been in twice in the last two years and it was a real pleasure each time.
Reminder of the cohesive community we used to have all over NZ in the now distant past. thank you.

A cute little book shop and library in a historic building. So glad we popped in here. The person working was lovely and gave us some information about its history. Scored a couple of great sci-fi books for just $3 each!

Cared for with great pride and respect by community volunteers whom we found super welcoming, informative and helpful.
A gorgeous little building steeped in history and a joy for anyone who loves books and reading.

Wonderfully restored buidling, great selection of reference books to read and a little bookshop in the front of the building. The volunteer local hosts are delightful and have great local knowledge.

this little gem of an historical library takes you back to another age whilst still offering modern books for sale. There is a significant collection of archived books and papers too

Being a librarian I really appreciated the local volunteers who contribute to the preservaation of this 18C library. Some second hand books are for sale to help finance the building preservation. Worth a visit!

It is small, as would be expected in a community that only numbers 700 people when all the tourists have left, but they have a good collection of materials, and the cinema next door shows new movies, and the Met Opera in High Definition!

We stumbled into the library and were so pleased we did as it was the lovely lady at the library who suggested we go to other sites , one being the Giants House . The lady who assisted us was very knowledgable and it was lovely chatting with her.

A lovely building that has a old lady as a docent and she chatted with us about the building that was inaugurated as the Akaroa Literary and Scientific Institute in 1875.
There is a long wooden table that covers most of the room and there are many old volumes of book in the shelves. I could only imagine the meetings, political or social, that took place in this room many decades ago.
Volunteers keep it tidy and open to visitors.

This is housed in an heritage building built in 1875 but very small and not too many books. I had to give a donation to get any information and got a brochure and took photos. It seems to me they need the money
