About
Our boutique vineyard and accommodation is located in the centre of an ancient volcano, on the shore of Akaroa harbour, Banks Peninsula. The vineyard is run by French vigneron, Renan Cataliotti, in a way that respects our soil. We aim to handcraft the best Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Rose from our very unique and special terroir. You can also stay on the vineyard, in either our special Wagon or in our spacious Barn accommodation.

This little winery was recommended to us so we stopped in for a wine tasting and platter. Nice casual, friendly service and a chance to taste four local wines that were excellent. Their rose, a Chardonnay, Reisling, and Pinot Noir. It didn’t take long - 1 hr. Go visit it! The whole bill was $80 for one person having wine tasting, a platter for 2, a glass of wine for 1, and 2 bottles of their very lovely rose for us to take away. I will be looking for French Peak Rose in the wine shops back in Auckland.

During peak holiday periods more staff required. We visited on 30 December and there was only one staff member (she was absolutely lovely and we felt for her trying to cope kn her own). For this reason the service was very slow, people were leaving without being served their platters and other visitors were being told they would not be able to be served.

Fabulous little gem! Stopped in for a wine tasting for x2 people on 2nd jan. lovely knowledgeable service, fresh Amorim French bread provided as an accompanying element and generous tasting pours of the 4 wines currently available. Took home a bottle of the French Peak Rosé!

We called in for a wine tasting and were warmly received, we decided to stay fir a platter for lunch with some excellent Pinot Gris. The platter was excellent with all items locally sourced cheese, meat, olives, breads, pesto and walnuts and of a deliciously high quality. Would throughly recommend a visit

As part of our cruise excursion, our tour guide/driver took us to French Peak Wines for wine sampling.
The lady who served us the wines was pleasant and friendly and took time to explain the different wines to us. We were the only group at that time. The sampling room looked rustic and cozy, with a wood burn fireplace in one corner. It’s quite small compared to sampling rooms at other wineries we visited in New Zealand. Nothing much I can say about their wines – the wines tasted average to me; I was not overly impressed. What I enjoyed was the landscaping of their garden and the pond – they looked very tranquil.
It was a nice stop and change of pace from our all-day Akaroa tour.

Tasting the wines grown in this amazing land is just an incredible experience! The Pinot noir is very special, with berries and plump flavour. The Rose is a real enjoyable quencher, a real "must try"!
Plus, with such a very friendly and passionate owner, you can only have a good time.

Only a short detour from the main road, French Peak Vines is set in a small barn, the groundlevel of which is the cellar where you can do vine testings. The owner was very friendly and could explain a lot about his vines and the region. I could feel how excited he is about making vine and that organic producing means a lot to him. If you like the vine - I bet you will - and buy some, the tasting is free of charge. In addition to that you can get a tasting plattern with locally produced cheese and ham as well as baguette to enjoy with the vine. Precisely that you can do either outside, where the choice between a wooden picknicktable next to a small lemon tree and a lovely little pavillion next to a pond is all yours, or you can sit inside where a few armchairs around a fireplace and magazines - about vine of course - are provided. After visiting french peak you can enjoy the beautyful view on the vineyard and the boats in the bay before having a look around in french farm. I definetly recommend a visit!

We stayed in the Barn which also serves as the tasting room for the Winery (open 12-6pm so not very private during that time but its also a good time to have a tasting of the wine). It is was a different experience with positives like the BBQ, a simple kitchen, Petanque and an exceptionally lovely setting. It also had some slight odd things. The bathroom/toilet can only be accessed by going outside via an external staircase - Not so good in the middle of the night. The "living room/kitchen" is also the tasting room below the bedroom accessed via external stairs. It was clean, quiet, and very relaxing. Coffee, milk was not provided so you need to take everything with you as there is no shop close by. Very nice hosts.

Hello! I am visiting tomorrow via Princess Cruise. I would love to visit. How would I be able to get to the winery from the harbour?

Hi Teresa
Thank you for your enquiry
We are 20 mn away from the main town.
Your best luck would be to get on the local taxi. Her name is rosemary.
Or talk to a tour operator when you are on the wharf. Some of them could take you to us
3rd option would be to hire a car.
I hope you can make it!
Regards
Renan
