About Black Cat Cruises
We started our Akaroa Harbour Nature Cruises back in 1985 and are the original cruise operators so we know the harbour pretty well. Along the way we've been named as the supreme tourism award winner and also hold the Enviro gold award from Qualmark to recognise our dedication to the environment. Your nature cruise will be on the 'Black Cat', a large modern and stable vessel allowing great views of all the scenery and wildlife including dolphins, seals and penguins. If by some chance you do not see dolphins then we will provide a ticket to come again another day. This happens on average 2% of the time across the whole year. We look forward to meeting you and giving you the best stories from the Akaroa Harbour.

Excellent cruise, such a thrill. We are so thankful to the captain and the hostess; she was so kind and helpful. It was quite and informative and wonderful cruise that we thoroughly enjoyed.

This trip was amazing , perfect calm day, with the brightest most beautiful colour water in the world, we saw a pod of bottle nose dolphins that played for us for over an hr. Even the staff were in awe . They were jumping out of the water, splashing us.

This was fantastic - great commentary and perfect weather. Saw a Hectors Dolphin almost immediately - stunning to see them swim by. Sighted more as we travelled up the coast and back again. Fabulous scenery - seals and lucky enough to see a penguin doing its thing in the water. This is a must when you visit Akaroa - take a jacket though for the sea breezes.

Amazing trip from start to finish. Office staff were so welcoming and polite, Lovely commentary from the skipper Daniel. The crew on board (Helen and Daisy) were super helpful and were able to answer any questions I had. Dolphins were AMAZING of course. The weather was perfect even if a little windy. The kids loved the trip and even learnt a few new things. Highly recommend for a family day out. Will be coming back to Black Cat Cruises when we are next in Akaroa.

If you have teenagers this is the trip for you. We were pleasantly surprised with the amount of dolphins that we saw and the professional Attitude of the crew. The dolphins are beyond cute, and we never felt unsafe just in our mind. We received hot chocolate a nice warm shower and plenty of guidance. A bit pricey but worth it.
