We were lucky enough to visit the Kalnciema area on a Saturday when they hold their street market. Wow what a colourful attractive market it is mainly aimed at the local residents but a wonderful photo opportunity for visitors like us. The fresh produce and home made pickles, jams, honey etc looked very inviting. There were also various souvenir type products for the tourist. If only we had something like this back home! We can thoroughly recommend a visit if you find yourself in Riga on a Saturday.

We walked from the city after reading online this was open and also had some Christmas craft stalls.
After a 40minute walk which was nice along the river but along the main road not so nice.
We then entered the market to find it was less than 10 stalls offering similar products to the central market in Riga.

We visited in December during the Christmas period. This is a go-to place for quality hand-made Christmas gifts/souvenirs, like mittens, hats, soap, but also lamps. They have a selection of local food as well. Loved the sea buckthorn drink!

Absolutely the best part of our weekend stay in Riga! No other tourists around, so tasty street food & wine, such a lovely products indeed (wool, clothes, bags, cookies, seasonal things etc.) And don’t forget to have a coffee & cake at Vinu Veikals.

The Saturday market in the Kalnciema neighborhood of Riga can get quite busy and, as such, less enjoyable.
If you manage to walk between the various stalls, you will be overwhelmed by a tidal wave of olfactive experiences, some of them familiar, others not so much. Most of the food products on display attest to the substantial nature of Latvian cuisine.
On the other hand, I was not particularly impressed by the array of crafts offered, which are supposed to be the other forte of this market.

A new friend and I toured the market after our free Riga old town tour. We each expected this to be much larger, but it was cute if you feel like venturing across the river. More goods than foods are sold at the market. We saw the wooden buildings our tour guide told us about. The best part about the market was walking and talking with a new friend.

We took the trolley bus out of the city to get to this farmers market held in an interesting suburb of old wooden houses. This renovated area was a delight. Great local produce to buy as well as food cooked to order. There was also an interesting craft area selling hand made items. Unfortunately we were caught in a tremendous rainstorm during our visit so we also enjoyed the pop up bar and cafe. Worth the trip out of the city to enjoy an alternative market scene which supports local producers and makers.

This place was a delight! Lots of food, crafts, jewellery and live music on show at this cute little market from 12 pm to 4 pm on a Saturday.

We trekked over the bridge from the Old Town, which despite being a little bit windy, was a pleasant enough walk. Buses or a Taxi might be a better option if you are staying in the Old Town.

Once we found it, we were glad we had decided to visit. There was plenty of local products and crafts for sale to tempt any tourist - especially one like myself who insists on bringing back local craft souvenirs everywhere I go.

When we visited, there was plenty of cooking taking place to grab food as well as plenty of free sampling.

I highly recommend going if you are in Riga on a Saturday.

We visited this funky market on a sunny Saturday in April (beware it mostly only opens on weekends). It was so insightful. They had a lot of different local snacks and beautiful handcrafted souvenirs, clothes, arts and crafts. It can get pretty crowded though, thus I recommend coming without bulky bags, strollers or rolling suitcases as it will be hard to pass between rows of vendors.

This is The market in Riga. Fantastic ambience, top quality locally grown food and different artisan items. The food ir real farmers production or small local companies, there is no other place in Riga with such quality. Most part of sellers speak some basic English. If weather is good, You can walk to Kalnciema Quarter by foot from the centre or take Bus 22, direction airport.
