Not easy to get to but not imposible. I took a Bus 5 to go to the Motor museum and then walked to another bus stop to take a # 15 that stops near the memorial. Walk back a bit and you can't miss the...More

Even the locals can't help you out in the search for this. We walked for miles, coming across runners and joggers, but no one knew where it was!

There are no signs indicating where this is and the parking lot is not even marked as a parking lot. We really stumbled upon it while driving in circles trying to find. Will stress you out if driving given the lack of signage and traffic.

Situated an easy 20 minute bus ride and then a few minutes walk into Bikerneiki Forest is the Bikerneiki Memorial to the almost 40,000 Jews and other ‘undesirables’ who were brought to this forest between 1941-1944 by the Nazis from German towns and cities (as...More

As important as I feel it is to visit this memorial, I feel very uneasy seeing it referred to as an attraction. However, I do feel that you MUST find time to this memorial.

A place that has witnessed the depths to which humanity can sink, the formal memorial is both thought provoking and respectful. Walking beyond the memorial into the forest, within a few metres, you come across the death pits. Harrowing does not begin to describe this...More

It seems incongruous to give a Holocaust Memorial a 'five-star rating' or to call it an 'attraction'. It is of course none of those things but is rather one of the darkest places in human history, a place to now visit, reflect, remember and resolve,...More

We walked to the forest from the old town and it was a long, long walk. Definitely recommend taking the trolley bus both ways, we caught it back! But definitely worth a visit, a very poignant setting if you are interest in the history from...More

Bikernieki Forest was Latvia's largest mass murder site in WWII. The memorial's architect, Sergey Rizh, worked on the memorial's design for 15 years. The memorial is a fitting commemoration of the tragic events that occurred here. As you walk around it, you see the names...More
