These wonderful and tranquil canals are perfect for a stroll or a picnic on one of the banks.
It's also lovely to take a rowbot and explore the canals for an hour or so.

A stroll or a boat ride in the canal is part of the Riga experience. The area is very scenic, and worth a visit.

This park starts next to the National Opera and extends all the way to the Quiet Centre. It is bisected by a canal which is very tranquil in it's own way. A nice area away from the hubbub of the city.

We selected a company that did 50–60-minute cruises. They usually go from the start point to the end of the canal and back, providing great views of the canal full length and the surrounding beauty in parks. Our particular cruise went out to the river Daugava. The canal ride was very pleasant, electric motor.

Located near the Freedom Monument, I saw boats coming and going here. I asked one of the boatmen and learned that fare is 18 euros per person and ride takes about an hour.

Along the banks of this canal were some locals lying on the grass and just chilling out.

The canals were beautiful and great to walk around or just stop and talk a break and relax and sit around the various spots around the canal

We visited in October and the park and canal were gorgeous. Adjacent to the old town, the canal is the border of "fairy land". We also took a canal tour boat ride in a craft that sat eight comfortably. There are several at docks in the park. For $15, we saw the whole town, took the canal from end to end and got a tour of the harbor. You might want to check the various boat companies. Our captain spoke little English and stated he was not a tour guide. Also, our boat was diesel powered which made it a little noisy and stinky. I saw other boats with an outboard motor which might be quieter.

Riga had some of the most beautiful parks and canals I have ever seen. Do yourself a favor and walk and spend time in them. Not to be missed and one of the highlights of Riga.
