    Gloriously gorgeous apartment & staircase
If you've been enjoying the gorgeous Art Nouveau buildings all over central Riga, and especially on Alberta iela, you are highly likely to love this museum! Go in at least for the glorious shared central staircase (free to view), but the apartment too is a beautiful joy to explore and well worth the entrance fee. A series of rooms are decorated in opulent style with lots of details to love, and costumed guides are around to answer questions. In the basement there are a few interactive exhibits & some bonnets etc to try on. Highly recommended, it's a treat to take a peak inside such a beautiful building.

    Small but excellent
This is a small exhibition and film on the lower level plus a recreated flat on the upper level. The lower level has been thoughtfully designed to make the material as interesting and interactive for families as possible, but is also interesting for adults - the fabric designs and final pieces are superb. The recreated flat is absolutely stunning, done with such great care and attention to detail. Don’t forget to look up the stairwell as you go in or out of the building - gorgeous!

    Great for Art Nouveau Beginners
An historic apartment (ring the bell at the front door) filled with art nouveau furnishings and art. Pleasant staff are dressed in period costume. Learned about the Art Nouveau movement in general as well as in Riga. This is a great rainy day activity.

The most beautiful city in the world!
Unfortunately we spent only 4,5 days in this fantastic city. Of course it deserves much more than that. We arrived by bus from another beautiful destination - Tallinn and walked to our Neighbors Hotel where we had a booked studio ( entry room, kitchen, bathroom with a bath and the room itself that had windows looking at the Dome cathedral on one side, gorgeous buildings on the other side and historic museum on the third side. Royal treatment, delicious breakfast, great service and million of other things. But the most important thing was that the building itself was Art Nouveau treasure. Even though our room had huge, comfortable bed we only slept a few hours a day. You just can't have enough of this incredible city. Anywhere where you look, you'll see something pretty, interesting, something you won't see anywhere else. Food is another thing that has to be mentioned. WOW, WOW and WOW . That's my reaction. Of course we went to as many concerts as we could, of course we visited most of their museums. When you visit National Gallery , you'll see artists you had never heard before however their art will shake your world. I promise. All Riga's museums are very interesting and you can read about them right in TA. The one museum we didn't read about here was a small museum that is located on the street right behind the Black Heads Building. The Information Office is right near Black Heads. So the museum I am talking about is a costume museum. I don't want to spoil a surprise and tell you everything about this museum but do yourself a favor and visit it. God, that was an unforgettable experience. I am pretty sure Riga will be "discovered" in a year or two and will turn into another gorgeous but crowded city. Go now, enjoy, eat, drink, swim in pleasure. Such a fest for one's eyes, ears, all senses.

Apartment museum faithfully decorated and furnished
Interesting museum contained in a meticulously furnished and decorated Art Nouveau apartment. You get to see not only the 'front of house' stuff like the reception rooms and bedrooms but can view the bathroom, wc (made in England!) the kitchen and the maid's room so it is all brought to life. The basement has an interesting exhibition on the imagined family that might have lived there. It was clever to stand in front of mirrors but to watch live action reflections of each family member checking their appearance before maybe going out or receiving guests. There were also numerous period decorative items and pieces of furniture on display Small Art Nouveau light fittings hanging from the ceiling of one of the rooms was an interesting display. The museum staff were dressed in period costume and you could try on certain articles of clothing too. The entrance and building staircase were also very impressive to see.

Riga is blessed with a lot of art nouveau architecture and you can see what a typical apartment would’ve looked like at this museum. Wander through the rooms and speak to the staff who are all dressed in themed costume.

This is a lovely little museum about typical art nouveau home decorations in the early 1900s. While this is a nice museum, it's not really worth going out of your way to go in. The surrounding neighborhood, however, has quite a few art nouveau style buildings that are very beautiful.

The art nouveau pass is an utter waste of time. Do not buy it.
You buy it on line, perhaps on your phone, make a booking for the relevant house but then have to go to a central location in the city to ‘redeem’ your voucher. If you are only going to two or three houses it’s cheaper and FAR easier just to pay at the door! I certainly wish I had not bought it.
The buildings obviously are remarkable and overwhelmingly worth visiting.

A must see in Riga. Especially on the hot days when you can no longer explore the city you can find some shadow and beauty inside :)

Firstly, this museum almost doesn’t want to be found!!! Although the address is Alberta Isla, the entrance is around the corner on Strelieku Iela.
Even inside the hallway the signage is very discreet. The door to the museum is on the right. Don’t go upstairs except to take photos.
The summer entrance fee is 9€ (apparently it is cheaper before May).
Down stairs is some history including an interactive map of Art Nouveau buildings in Riga. It’s fun to search for buildings in your locality.
The ground floor is a recreation of the apartment using genuine furniture and artefacts. Signage in Latvian, English and Russian.
A lovely exhibition, especially if you are remotely interested in Art Nouveau.
