Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Please be aware that I never got into the museum, one thing that we did not realize and did not see on any of the travel books our sites is that u need to call two days ahead of going here to set up an appointment. Don't just show up.

Kodály’s apartment in Budapest. The personal items, the furniture and the décor give this museum a very personal feel to it. It felt like he'd popped out to the shops and would be back very shortly. There was also a very formal feel to it that gives the impression that Kodály might have been quite a formal man. There is an abundance of photos. However, there isn’t an audio guide and the person who was there didn’t give a guided tour which is a shame, though any questions asked were answered enthusiastically. A double sided sheet of A4 with guidance on the apartment and its contents was provided which was handy. One perhaps for those already acquainted with his oeuvre. Photography is not allowed inside the apartment though the posters in the foyer can be photographed. Access via public transport is via the Kodály Körönd Station on Line One of the Metro (the yellow line on any map) from where it’s a two minute walk. There are notes posted in English and Hungarian which give directions on what door buttons to press and where to go once inside the building complex. Not for children. Shoe covers are required to be worn which are provided by the museum

We came in and they showed us a rather long movie about Kodaly. If you are a musician or a musicologist it will be very interesting. Then the lady took us around the apartment. Her English was excellent. We learned a lot about this important educator and composer. His office was magnificent, with a wonderful folk style desk. The place has great atmosphere. Definitely worth your time if you want to dig deeper into Hungarian culture.

As a music teacher and a great admirer of Kodaly I really wanted to see this museum. I traveled via metro and when I arrived it said by appointment only. This should be made explicit on the website. This is extremely baffling and as a famous and notable Hungarian composer I do not understand why this museum is not more accessible. The opening hours were only 2 hours at a time. Even though I buzzed 3 times during the opening hours, no one answered. I was very disappointed.

The museum of Zoltan Kodaly is a very beautiful place, it’s full of his personal belongings, scores, letters, pictures... the problem is that there is nothing in English (just a 2 pages document which tells you more or less what’s in each room), so I had to guess what was written in each explanation of every single document or picture.
It’s a not very big museum, but full of very interesting things from Kodaly, which for us musicians is great to see so close that you can almost touch it!
The woman from the reception was not really kind, all the time controlling where we go, what we do... and she didn’t help. She also forbid us to take any picture (not like in Liszt museum that it was possible to take as much pictures as we wanted).

As earlier recezent I have trouble with this place. This is a very cool place but completely in disarray. I think I saw them only begin to renovate. I hope that it will regain its luster, as it looks very average at the moment.

Apparently you need to call ahead and make arrangements for a visit to this museum but it is worth it! I happened to show up the same time when an Italian group came and I was allowed to tag along with them. The tour guide (a very attractive young lady) gave the tour in English and that was translated to Italian… Anyone familiar with Kodaly and/or is a classical music lover should take this tour. I’d highly recommend it…
