The area
Neighbourhood: District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.

Impressive tunnel still in use as a main thoroughfare. Goes under Fisherman's Bastion and next door to the funicular to Buda Castle. It is a short tunnel. My hotel was right across the treet from a park, the tunnel and the funicular!

Interesting 350-meter tunnel through Buda [Castle] Hill. I walked across the Szechenyi Chain Bridge and through this tunnel to go to a restaurant on the Buda side. The restaurant is located about 300 metres from the other end of the Buda Castle Tunnel. Three things bothered me in walking through the tunnel. The poor air quality due to the exhaust from vehicles, having to continually watch out for bicycles coming from the rear, and the traffic noise.

I will classify this as a “poor” from the standpoint of a tourist attraction. It is not a “must see,” but easy to view if you walk across the Szechenyi Chain Bridge.

The Buda castle tunnel leads, as its name implies, to the Buda castle.
While the exteriors of the tunnel are lovely, and despite it not being too long, I wouldn't recommend walking through it, as its ventilation is less than stellar.

We had been exploring the area around the Buda Castle on foot and were taking a break in the Clark Adam Square adjacent to the Buda Funicular Station.
While resting on a park bench there, we sat for a while watching the heavy traffic entering and leaving the Buda Castle Tunnel. The entrance to the tunnel is ornately decorated with 2 columns either side of the arched entry and a carved crest above it.
Later in the day we travelled through the tunnel on a local bus whilst returning from the Fisherman’s Bastion. The tunnel is not large but it carries a lot of road traffic. There is pedestrian access through the tunnel but because of the amount of traffic passing through it, one would need to have a very good reason to walk through the tunnel.
Definitely not a tourist attraction but its ornate entry-way is worth a quick look if you happen to be in the vicinity!

Its a tunnel under the Buda Castle Hill for cars and pedestrians. Worth a photo when you are there and its its just by the Castle Hill funicular.
I wouldn't walk through it though as when watching the drivers coming through, they were driving erratically and there is not much separation between path and the road. Its ventilation isn't that good also.

Its just a Tunnel.
The frontage is nice and well structured but noithing else. If you are around the neighborhood just sit accross the street at the park and enjoy the views. Dont just go there for it. There are other places which worth a visit not this one
