About
After being leveled when the Nazis left, this whole neighborhood of cobblestone Gothic streets and alleyways, baroque palaces, numerous churches and tiered burghers' houses were masterfully reconstructed to reflect the atmosphere of bygone days.

- Pippa HLondon, United Kingdom23 contributionsStunning!Beautiful area of the city with great restaurants and cafes. There are so many gorgeous churches, which you can go in and look at the interior. There are many monuments, and a bell for good luck. The main square also had ice skating! I would highly recommend Cafe To Lubie for the most delicious hot chocolate you have ever tasted!Visited February 2020Written 18 February 2020
- John BToronto, Canada2,977 contributionsIncredible to believe this area was in ruins just 75 years agoYes, Old Town is a little touristy with stores peddling cheap souvenirs and many mediocre restaurants, but it is the way this area has literally arisen from the ashes of WWII which makes it such an incredible place to visit. Much care was taken to restore the buildings to their original design that the neighbourhood looks and feels like it has been preserved for the past 300 years. It is not a large area so take time to wonder up and down the narrow streets. A definite must see is the Warsaw museum which is housed in a series of row houses right on Old Town Square and rent some skates and take a spin around the ice rink set up in the middle of the square.Visited February 2020Written 22 March 2020
- Maria BMississauga, Canada304 contributionsWonderful town squareJust visited the square. Very nice buildings on it. Most were recreated after the war as the nazis had flattened most of the town . Many eateries, shops selling a variety of goods and buskers musicians everywhere in the evenings. There are churches which are still functioning today and also a fortified type of castle complete with a moat and all. Very easy to access as the bus 175 comes to the old town square from the airport. As do many other buses. Things reasonably priced and in the evening the town is lit with a multitude of sparkly fairy lights around the mermaid monument and people go skating at the rink. The small stalls which remind me of Christmas market stalls sell mulled wine, hot chocolate and snack. Very impressive and a must visitVisited February 2020Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 February 2020

We were recommend Old Town by a friend who is Polish
Old Town met all expectations
We stayed in the heart of Old Town it is close all restaurants and there are so many to choose from.
There are a number of tours you can book we did the food tour which included food and history which was excellent.
The town has kept parts of the buildings to show damage/ bullet holes from the wars. They have preserved the original castle with mote, you can see the bullet holes in the century old buildings. In other parts of Old Town they had to rebuild completely
If you want to experience the culture and history of Warsaw then Old Town is a must see in your list
Would definitely stay there again

Was a great visit to the old town, plenty of shop leading in to the old town, excellent if your into amber jewellery with so many shops to choose from, lots of coffee type cafe s to choose from. Very clean and well policed. I gave it 4 for the reason of lack of variety of shops, still so much to see in steep history and culture and the people very friendly

The Old Town is not only a picturesque destination for leisurely strolls but also a profound symbol, standing as a resolute testament to the unyielding spirit of the Polish people. It exemplifies their unwavering commitment to safeguarding their rich heritage for future generations. My favorite place in Warsaw!

If you're planning a trip to Poland, please consider StayPoland.com as your travel agent for everything Poland. My family and I just returned on Monday, 6/27/2023, from our tour and it couldn't have been better. This is our third experience with this agency and we haven't been disappointed.
We arrived in Kracow, Poland on 6/16, the driver picked us up at the airport and delivered us to Hotel Unicus for a two night stay. Having stayed there on our last trip in 2017, we knew what to expect, and the excellent standards were maintained. The next day, our agent, Anna, had arranged a walking tour of Old Town and Wawel Castle. Our guide was a font of information and kept us entertained for the three hour tour. Well worth the tired feet!
Our guide/driver, Peter met us in the hotel lobby, loaded us up in our 8 passenger Mercedes van and away we went. Even though our tour was private, it was a curated tour, Simple Pleasure, a seven day driving tour.
We visited the cities of Lanckorona, Novy Sacz, Łańcut, Zaność, Kazimierz, and ending in Warsaw.
The hotels we stayed in were all local to each city. Each were individual in their styles, but all clean and comfortable. The Hotel Modrzewiowka, in Lanckorona, had small rooms with double beds. that was a challange for our 6'4" son-in-law! Hotel Zamojski, in Zamość, had no central air conditioning. It was a warm day, but opening the balcony door soon cooled the room after temperature dropped after sunset.
We ended our tour in Warsaw and a two night stay at the Marriott. It was a real treat to be at an American hotel brand with some of the amenities we missed, AC and king beds. Again, our agent, arranged a 4 hour tour of Warsaw. It was a city drive, walking tour of the Royal Castle, and ended in Old Town.
This trip was to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. We took our two children and their spouses. No party will be able to out-do this trip and the memories will be relived for a very long time.

We did a three hour private walking tour that included old town. This gave us insight to things we wouldn’t have known of what happened and what was previously there if we had just strolled around on our own.

Hi there
My boyfriend and I have krakow booked for next week 18-22 March. We are supposed to be travelling from Dublin.
We are not sure whether to continue with the trip, or cancel it due to corona virus. Are most tourist places still open? I’m aware museums are starting to close etc. Just wondering if it will be worth it for us to go as we wanted to visit Auschwitz etc.
We were planning to fly out of Warsaw and get the train from krakow to Warsaw.
If anyone could provide us with some information that would be great

Good afternoon, sorry for the late answer. I owe it to you anyway. I must have missed the message all together. I was planning and moving a country just before the total European lockdown. From Belgium to Luxembourg and just just made it, but I did!!!
Krakow to Warsaw is a worth while trip. 3 hours by train one way? If you get to krakow ever again, do it: old town, summer time nice walk along the river, shopping skyline etcetc
You also can go to Budapest or Prague. If only interested in staying in southern Poland: salt mines are also a must.
Hope you are well and safe getting ready for the new year!
Best wishes,
AJ

We would highly recommend the free walking tours. We have been on both in Warsaw and krakow. Guides have excellent knowledge and history of the areas. To be honest we did not bother with the Warsaw ghetto because there is virtually nothing left, it has been knocked down and built on. Our guide said the same.
There was plenty to see in Krakow of the ghetto. We also took a trip to auschwitz birkenau with Krakow shuttle who were excellent, picked us up from hotel, in mini bus, English speaking also English speaking guide at camps and brought back to hotel very good price. Tickets bought over internet, worked well.

Hi!
Me ( from Barcelona) and my girlfriend (from Devon) will be staying in the Old Town of Warsaw during 30th December till 2nd January and we were wondering if someone could recommend some places where to have dinner (ideally local food with veggie options) aswell a club (we like tecno music) or area where to have fun for the rest of the night.
Also if there's any nice activity to do there during the rest of the days.
Thanks in advance!

I am arriving to Warsaw and have to stay 10 hours until my next flight.
How I can go to see old town from airport ?
What is the best way to get there by public transit and how long it will take so I can be back on time for my flight ?
Thank you,

You failed to mention which Airport you are flying into because it makes all the difference!!!
Warsaw Modlin Airport is about 45 minutes away in a taxi and would cost approximately 80zloty-a bus is only 7 zloty
As for time on the bus I’m not sure sorry as I took a taxi.
Warsaw Chopin Airport is much closer
If you’re there for 10.30 am I would go straight to the tall statue of Sigmund opposite the Presidential Palace and look for the guys holding bright yellow umbrellas with flags on top representing what language they speak- they are FREE walking tour guides - the tour takes up to two hours and takes in so much including the Old Town- you just give the guide a tip at the end.
I hope this helps 👍

Hi, we are a group of 30 travelling to Warsaw at the beginning of June for a weekend break. We are celebrating my 50th birthday and wondered if anyone knows of a restaurant able to accommodate us all for just one meal whilst we are there? I appreciate there is a lot of us but would like for us all to sit down together at least once over the weekend.

I'm sure that Bazyliszek, right in the Old Market Square might be able to accommodate you. They have a huge patio, decent food (although nothing too fancy), reasonable prices and efficient service
