Lovely church with a small museum within the grounds. Guided tours from a very knowledgeable monk with a great sense of humour. Explained both religious aspects and gave some interesting historical information. Limited food available, we were there in October and struggled to find somewhere...More

The chapel housing the Black Madonna is relatively small. There was a mass taking place when we arrived. I suspect that there are frequent masses as the chapel was packed with the faithful. Many arrived as a pilgrims, some came to be healed of afflictions....More

Pilgrims everywhere in this famous place. You will even find statues of Pope John Paul 2's parents in honor of Poland's love for their famous son. The church where the Black Madonna is very small. Only a hundred people could fit in it - so...More

The Jasna Gora monastery can be reached on foot from Czestechowa train station or by taxi from outside. The monastery dates back to 1382 and is very picturesque. It is most famous for housing the painting of the Black Madonna and child which is credited...More

We went at around just after 7:00am and had a wonderful experience there. Also, we have been told the area gets incredibly busy during the day, given its position between Kraków and Warsaw. The area is really nice to see the church, but can/will be...More

I am really surprised about full devotion of polish people in this holy place to our black lady, they don't go to see the style though it's also attractive and pictoresque, but to kneel and pray... I felt good. Hope to come back

Black Madonna feels more like a commercial, than a spiritual 'enterprise', to an almost cynical degree Opportunities to 'donate' money abound. My interpretation of the experience was that, committed Roman Catholics, in their pews for Mass, had to cope with hordes of tourists, circulating, milling...More
