My daughter. Her friends & I took our own self lead tour. The grounds are beautiful and each building has it's own uniqueness. Lots of art, stain glass windows, trees, statues, beautiful architecture of each building. Even a place called the Grotto where you can light a candle & a prayer for someone. It's also a great place to meditate, relax, & or reflect. Very quiet & peaceful. When college is getting out or going back into session, you can sit back & watch all the hustle & bustle. Lots of great things, along with sports occur here. Over all a nice walk around with the sunshine on our face. Nice experience. I understand you can get a tour, we just chose to tour all the buildings & property ourselves. Well worth the visit, at least once, especially with young people. Oh happy day. 😊😊

Wanted to take a campus tour, simple enough.
Weather was cold, damp and quite uncomfortable. It was winter.
We were told we had to park in the visitor lot (you have to pay for) which was quite a ways away from where the daily tours begin. There were various signs about NOT PARKING in areas close to the visitor center.
We were not looking to get our vehicle towed while on the ND campus or cause any issue.
As seniors we refused to walk that far, both ways, just to tour the campus. No way.
There were plenty of empty spots in the bookstore parking lot but we were led to believe that was not for short term visitors like us.

That trip was by far one of the best college trips I have ever taken! It is a beautiful campus with a variety of tradition. We went to the football game, but we also explored around the rest of campus and visited the Grotto, the Golden Dome (main building), and Touchdown Jesus. Everyone is very friendly to visitors and we felt comfortable. If you go during the winter, please make sure to pack an extra pair of shoes and thick clothing because it gets quite cold!

I recently had an evening with nothing to do while in South Bend, so I visited the university campus. It was a beautiful place with a nice balance of green space and buildings. All the buildings were beautifully coordinated in color and style and the grounds were impeccably kept. It is not hard to see many of the famous sites with very little walking. You can drive from site to site and park nearby and walk a short distance to see what you want. That is important to me because I have a hard time walking great distances. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to kill and hour or two while in South Bend.

We had an overnight stay in South Bend and decided to stroll through the campus. We were both gobsmacked by the beauty of the buildings and the architecture. Even the trees and bushes seemed to be planted with great care to show off colors and textures. We absolutely loved walking for two hours around the empty campus on a late May day.
Sadly, the basilica was closed to visitors. Maybe next time.

Just walking the campus on a fall day and the beauty of the buildings makes this a special place. Old and new buildings blend so well everything the University does is well thought out. The Eddy Street Commons phase 2 is linking the University to down town South Bend.

The Notre Dame campus has lots of green and amazing buildings and especially the Miain building with the Golden Dome.
Stop in the store for Notre Dame merchandise is a must, as is visiting the stadium that is bigger than most proffesional stadiums.
Basilica of the Sacred Heart is another good visit.

The campus has a certain air about it…beautiful, nothing out of place and yet teaming with activity. I think they call that Pride. Students, alum and the families who surround them know how special this place is. Def worth a visit

We were heading to Shipshewana, Indiana, and decided to spend a couple of days in South Bend, Indiana to see what was there, including the University of Notre Dame. We took a tour from the alumni association on campus, and they sent us with a student. She was very good and informed us about the lifestyle and many other things about Notre Dame. They don't require any money for the tour, but it is very nice to tip the students when you finish.

This is a beautiful campus and well worth your time to see. You can drive around the campus and you can park and walk. I recommend doing some of each. The lawns are beautifully landscaped and there are flowers everywhere. The buildings themselves are beautiful. I was amazed at the size of the campus and the number of buildings. Everyone was very courteous from the employees, volunteers and the students themselves. Everyone was willing to help you find what you were looking for. There is no cost at all to tour the campus.

Will be in South Bend the afternoon of April 6 and all-day April 7th. Would like to take my 13 year old grandson on a guided tour of the University, but it looks like the Visitor Center is closed Sunday. Are there private guided tours available on a Sunday? This is only days we have unfortunately.

Can we walk around campus on our own on a Saturday afternoon in July? Looks like tours are mon- Friday. Might be in town and would like to see it. Is there visitor parking?

We drive in from Chicago and stayed at a hotel 5 mins away, but South Bend is easy to get around, I bet no more than 10-15 mins.

Will be coming through South Bend on a Sunday morning in a few weeks. Are there bicycle rentals available and where is visitor parking (2-3 hours)?
Written 24 February 2020
Lime bikes are no longer available on the campus. The campus is a pedestrian campus and very walkable to get to see the sites (Grotto, Basilica, Touchdown Jesus). Sidewalks were clear from snow a few weeks ago.
Parking is available at several locations on campus. Weekend parking is more plentiful than weekday. The security manning the gates can help direct you. When I am there, I tend to park on south end of campus by the football stadium or by the bookstore.

I am visiting Indiana this weekend, Do I need to book a tour in advance? I
Written 9 August 2018
The first stop for visitors to the Notre Dame campus should be the Eck Visitors center at the south side of campus. The Center will provide maps of the campus and indicate what is open to the public. However, during the fall, football weekends are tremendously crowded--somethings like 100,000 people.

Are stadium tours available during the week when there is not a home game. Specifically September 20 or 21, 2018?
If so what time(s) are available and do tickets need to be purchased in advance?
Written 27 March 2018
I recommend calling or emailing the school's tours department for this information.
