We were staying in Oneroa so were able to get to EcoZip Adventures under our own steam rather than take the shuttle service. I saw the great reviews and thought I'd like to try it but due to my fear of heights, was concerned it would be too terrifying. Having popped up to the venue to take a peak at the operation, I felt ok to proceed to a booking. Me and my 14 year old daughter booked to give it a try and had the most fantastic time.
The whole experience lasts about two hours, commencing with a very easy and efficient briefing and kitting out. There are free lockers with padlocks to leave larger bags and other unnecessary belongings. You can take phones/cameras, glasses, wallets and bottled water with you either in your pockets or in a small secure bag that is secured to you out of the way but accessible. You can buy water and icecreams at the venue.
There are three different ziplines, each getting higher, steeper and faster. For those concerned with heights, probably the first zipline is the scariest because it is more obvious how high you are at the start. However once you set off, it's so much fun that you forget your fears. Obviously the heavier you are, the faster you go. Only those between 30kg - 100kg can do it. If you are on the lighter side (my daughter), sometimes there is not enough momentum to get to the end, however the guides are skilled at collecting you in and pulling you to the platform. If you fear you are going too fast, the brake at the end stops any of these issues. It all seems very safe and very well run. Two people zipline at the same time, so you may want to partner up or not as if you're going with people you know, it's then difficult (but not impossible) to get a photo of the experience.
Once you've finished your three ziplines, there is about a 25 minute walk up through the forest to return to the start. It's super interesting and beautiful scenery.
The whole experience was so much fun and I'd recommend to anyone to give it a go.
