The Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre showcases the amazing history of the Snowy Mountains Scheme; from the early days of construction through to how it is operated by Snowy Hydro today. This is a must for any visitor to the Snowy Mountains region! The Centre houses a comprehensive exhibition hall including an extensive photographic collection, models, hands-on exhibits and interactive displays. You will find information about the Scheme such as engineering, the environment, the National Electricity Market, history, water management and power generation. Take your turn on the “power bikes” and see if you can peddle hard enough to power a TV, make some toast or boil a kettle. You will also find screens displaying the Scheme working in real time. See which generators are operating, how much electricity they are producing and the prices of electricity in the market.

This is a must see place if you're passing through Cooma. Full of informative and educational stuff, together with lots of history. We took our son along, but we learned just as much as he did, particularly historical facts. A great Aussie experience.

Last time I visited Cooma was in 1963! We were on a school trip of the Snowy scheme. Here, now, you can experience the whole thing in one spot. The display is excellent and shows the magnitude of the job and the resilience of the...More

An amazing story of success. Would this scheme ever have been built if not for the circumstances of post war availability of labour? However, I did think the display was a little tired, buttons not working etc. and didn't really do justice to the fantastic...More

We grew up with stories of the Snowy River Scheme, so wanted more detail while in the area. A man at the Discovery Centre put on a doco in the theatre for us. This gave a good oversight to the scheme, and to the people...More

A place that you must visit. Lots of very interesting information on display and also a very informative short film covering the construction. Can be very crowded when bus groups are visiting. It has a small cafe as well.

A fascinating bit of engineering commencing with an idea in 1885 and completed in 1974. Well worth the visit to learn about dedication of people from all over the world to construct this amazing scheme. Adding that the ladies at the cafeteria provide excellent coffee...More

There are some lights and stuff on some of the self-promotional stuff but I would have liked to see the scheme models and diagrams illustrated with things like water flows. The models are still nice but all the info is a brief overview and I'd...More

Everyone in the centre was so informative, we gathered enough information to take us all the way around the hydro system. Great service.
