Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Kalamburru has a very active Aboriginal community, producing beautiful artworks. Caravan and camping facilities and a yummy bakery are available. We went to Honeymoon bay and stayed with Les. The fishing is good and Bay is quiet and serene. Camping facilities are available. Campers need to be fully self sufficient, food and water and solarpowered. The camp has showers and toilets only. The road in was rocky and rough in parts but drive to conditions and it is ok. Came across wild horses, wallabies and plenty of birds.

We travelled at the end of the season. From Mitchell Plateau to the Theda station homestead it was ok, but then the standard dropped off a cliff. In some parts we were travelling at 15km per hour and it was still to fast! This can be an isolated piece of road, on the way back we did not see a car till the Mitchell Plateau turn off, so prepare and plan accordingly.

Not the most enjoyable drive on this road, and as it was the only route we could take we just knuckled down and got on with it. Great for the more adventurous drivers.

This road is much rougher than the Gibb River Rd. but the scenery is amazing as it changes as you get onto the Plateau and into the Livistonia Palm forest, a must as you are travelling through the Kimberleys.

Well it was certainly an experience!!! Talk about rough, looks sort of flat and smooth until you find the corrugations, pot holes dips etc. Make sure you have your vehicle on good shape and check it regularly, secure those loose and breakable items or they will. We tourists only get to use this road when we go visiting, but the locals have it all the time so don't forget to show the usual courtesies of slowing down when passing etc. Gets you to some great location, ie Mitchell Falls, but not a road to be attempted without planning.

Did the Kalumburu drive on the 4 th July. Was well worth the trip but the road is very bad. The last 20km in is at 10km an hour. Stayed at Honeymoon Bay this was a great stay and great fishing. On the trip back we were lucky enough that the grader had made it from the Gibb River road to the Drysdale station so the last 60 km to the Gibb river intersection was smooth. Make sure your 4x4 is up to it. Talked to one guy that was stuck in Kalumburu with a broken front axel on his 80 serious Toyota.

some of the road was graded and this only made the rest seem worse The later in the season you travel the worse it will get and the last 15 kl into Kalumburu was the worst.
