As guests at "Sublime Samana Hotel & Residences", the beautiful beach of "Playa CosĂłn" was just like home - at only a few steps away! An exclusive beach, with calm crystal clear waters, white sands and no crowds (at least when we were there). Days of leisure and peace at a lovely beach. At any trip to the Dominican Republic, do include a few days at "Playa CosĂłn" in Las Terrenas. If you'll dare to miss it, you'll regret forever! Enjoy!

if you don't mind windy beaches, then Playa Coson is worth seeing.
very long beach, you can walk for around an hour.
the Restaurant Luis is great; delicious food, seafood is their specialty.
really happy we've seen it, but it was so windy (it's almost always is) that we wouldn't go again (we like swimming and sun bathing).

If there is one thing I recommend any traveller to do while in the Dominican Republic is please visit the coson beach club located on coson beach. To start with, the beach is absolutely stunning and truly breathtaking. The moment you step off the beach into the club, you are greeted with the friendliest of staff and warmest smiles anywhere in the world. The staff are amazing and could not do enough for us. There are hammocks, plenty of sun loungers with outdoor eating areas. Two massive swimming pools, one for adults and one shallow pool for the children. The children loved it here just as much as us for the laid back Caribbean atmosphere and hospitality. Every part of this club including it's restaurant, pools, toilets, sun loungers are spotless. The food is beautiful and all is cooked fresh every single day. The fish is to die for. For the first few meals we had fresh dorado with a Thai sauce on black rice. We visited the day after and they didn't have any fresh dorado left so we had the same meal but with red snapper as an alternative which was just as enjoyable. This is how you know the food is always fresh. There are many restaurants around the area but nothing will ever compare to this place. We have visited many restaurants, countries, continents and cultures in the past and can honestly say, this restaurant with the setting, staff and food is the best place i have ever visited in the world. Manuel Garcia the owner closes every monday and Tuesday. Unfortunate for us, we were travelling home on a Tuesday morning so monday, which was our last night meant the restaurant would have been closed. When we told Manuel that we were sad they would not be open on our last night, he told us to come back on the monday and he will specially cook just for us. I have never known a restaurant to open and fire up the kitchens just for a family of four before and can not thank him, or his staff enough for doing that especially for us. We like to travel the world and see many places, we don't normally return to a country once we have visited it but we can honestly say, we will return to the Dominican Republic just because of Manuels beach club and all of his wonderful staff. Thanks again guys and look forward to seeing you all very soon.

Was at Coson in January and, and the sea was more tumultuous than usual because of storms at sea. I've been a strong swimmer since I was a toddler; grew up on the Red Sea.
I swam out alone while my daughter went to get us a couple beers at Luis', and by the time she made it back I was in trouble. The problem was not only a riptide, which you can escape by swimming parallel to the beach, it was the surf creating very aerated water - full of bubbles - so that there was not enough water to support my body weight. it was thick enough to drown in, but not hold you up.
I made it out with, daughter's help; just seeing her coming towards me gave me the strength to push, and make it back to shallower water. If she wouldn't have been there, or someone noticed me, I would not have made it.
Back at our rental house I googled Coson beach and found it was considered a dangerous one, due to no barrier reef that eliminates riptide. A European man drowned there in 2017.
It is everything you want in a beach in calm seas. SO very beautiful. But don't swim if the sea is high. At Las Terrenas, the beaches have barrier reefs and are safe regarding riptide.

While traveling the world we started in the Dominican Republic. We lived in a Dominican Republic for a 1 month and more specifically La Terrenas. We had a little issue trying to find this beach on the first day but are we ever glad we stuck to it and figured it out. Again, similar to Playa Bonita beach, Playa Coson Is natural beauty for sure. With very little development and pure raw coastline, it's truly something to see. If you're looking to relax with not a lot of people this is the place for you. We also tried the restaurant which is in our video at 2travelinglovers on youtube if you're interested. The video goes over a whole day at Playa Coson and what to expect on your journey to the beach. We highly recommend that if you're in Las Terrenas in the Dominican Republic you check this beach out

-It is about 20mns away from Las Terrenas city (we were at the Albachiara Hotel) we found it to be in a little bit remote location but it is absolutely worthy to visit. (Hope you coming in your own vehicle or rent one cause I heard taxis are about us40 and you will get bored as hell if you don’t go out of your hotel)
-There is a restaurant called Luis coson and is right on the beach. They serve drinks, coconut water in the coconut and to eat they offer octopus, shrimps, fish and lobster. As a side dish they offer french fries, white rice and red beans or fried plantains. It is the cheapest place to eat that I found in LT. They accept credit card but bring cash cause sometimes they run out of electricity or the signal can be bad. The waiter had to go with us to the city to find an ATM machine... (they have a tank with water to wash off the sand and I saw they have long chairs but don’t know if they charge extra. And For your info, they don’t have high chair if you come with children)
-I wouldn’t suggest to stay in a hotel that is located in coson though because there is nothing to see or to do over there, just the beach.
-If you stay in Las Terrenas town, near to punta popy, las terrenas beach, playa las ballenas or el pueblo de los pescadores, you will have more things to see and do near by even if you don’t have a vehicle. And you can also order food from the App “Komida” which I don’t think could be possible if you stay in Coson. And remember the curfew starts at 9pm so you probably would like to order something to eat after 9.
-Make sure to carry your repellent because you can find mosquitoes in the whole town specially in coson🦟 (put it before you get out of the car, don’t wait till they bite you to use it)
-Also bring bottled water because it’s very expensive in Las Terrenas (the regular price is RD$15 or RD$20 for 16oz but in Las Terrenas you will find it at RD$50 and RD$60) if you guys get thirsty you will have to buy several bottles cause one wont be enough for more than one person.
-If coming with children maybe you could bring mosquito nest for the crib, just in case. (I didn’t have to use mine but you never know)
-there are restaurants and bars that are closed on week days so please check the places you want to visit before you go
-there are places that don’t take credit card
-there are several places that don’t have high chair and some of them have just one
-download the App Komida to check the menu and prices of some restaurants in the city
-recommend restaurants: campo kitchen, dolce vita, porto, el balcon del mosquito

We spent a day at Playa Coson and I have mixed feelings about it. If you are not staying at a hotel that's right there, it's hard to find where to park and there are very few facilities. We ended up parking at a restaurant called The Beach and agreed with the owner that we would have lunch there so we could borrow beach chairs. The beach was very quiet (the weather was not great) and we had all the room we could possibly want. It's a great beach and I might have had expectations that were too high. Do your research before you go to make sure you know where to go!

This is our second year vacationing here and we absolutely love this beach. We stay elsewhere but drive to this beach because it is so pristine and beautiful. We usually would have lunch at Cafe Coson or the Beach and stroll around the beach with either my daughter and husband and/or my brother/parents to collect seashells and find crabs. We have always felt safe and safety has never been an issue for us during our extensive stays here.
One afternoon my brother and daughter were out collecting seashells and then my dad went out to catch up to them. Often times the beach may feel completely deserted with barely anyone around. This was the case when my dad was walking on Playa Coson Beach like he's done so many mornings/afternoons completely in his own thoughts. Before he realized it, someone had come in from behind and pushed him hard, which made him fall on his knees and then the man grabbed his chain and ripped it off his neck and ran away. My brother saw him from the distance and actually tried to run after him but he was too fast. This experience has stunned all of us and was completely unexpected. We were all thankful that my dad had only a scrape from the neckless however, what this experience has thought us is that we cannot let our guard down and you have to look around and be aware of your surroundings.
We spoke to an expat who has lived in Samana for a few years and he said that it wasn't likely to be a local rather someone from Santa Domingo and that these occurrence are very rare. Next time we were on this beach we were more cautious and didn't wear any jewelry. We still love this beach and are already planning our next visit to Samana.

Playa Coson has become the perfect place for surfing in the last years, it is also possible to swim with no problem, in las terrenas local people consider it as the deepest beach in the town, there also a Dominican Restaurant that has been there for almost 20 years, it know visit for local people but also for tourists, its speciality is seafood and Dominican style food.
It is great place to visit in Las Terrenas.

Saludos cordiales

Hi, any reefs off playa coson? Would love to snorkel
Written 5 November 2017
I agree with the others. Coson is more of a surfing beach. Where the reefs are, there are no waves breaking on the shore.
