Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Join the locals on this popular walking track. Gradually climb above the trees to get epic views across the Wakatipu basin. Enough to get the heart pumping, there’s a bench at the top before the decent back down. Use “Tobins Drop” for a more direct route down and join the river to find your way back to the start.

The track is easy to find/access - head towards the river from Arrowtown bus terminal, or from Ford Street. Once you get on the path, stay on it and it will get you all the way to the “top” where you will find 2 benches. From there, you can continue onto another hike, or head down via the much steeper Tobins Drop trail. If you prefer a simpler way to end your walk, head back down the same path. It’s about 6km up and down the same way, elevation gain of 277m.

Up hill all the way but worth the view from the top. Your calf muscles get a good workout. Good track bit skidy on the way down. Saw a hawk flying around the top.

We actually managed to combine Tobin Drop and Tobin Track to do a beautiful circular walk. We also did it the hard way! We walked along the Arrowtown Millennium Walk out of Arrow Town ignoring the signs to Tobin's Track but carrying on. after a few kilometres you come across a sign for "Tobins Drop, which takes you straight up the hill and I mean straight up the hill, it is tough climb for about 30 minutes but the views are well worth the effort. Once you get to the top you have great views looking down on Arrowtown you can also see the Crown Ranges and Queenstown in the distance. We then took the far gentle Tobin Track back into Arrowtown

An easy but good climb to get the heart pumping. Views from the top are worth the effort. Track is shared by visitors and locals alike - expect cyclists, runners, dog walkers and horse riders. We took the walk early in the morning to beat the heat - a great way to create an excuse for coffee and pastries in Arrowtown afterwards!

Definitely an uphill trudge, but pleasant along the way and payoff is there with the beautiful views. Very nice way to spend some time away from the touristy Queenstown area. Friendly locals along the way happy to give suggestions for other things to do.

An uphill slog that seems to go no where and just sticks to a gravel road. The views are not at all fantastic. There are better walks in Arrowtown than this one.

We took this walk at the end of our day out in Arrowtown and were rewarded with a great perspective over the town toward the top of the walk. It is a reasonably strenuous and constant climb with changing foliage and scenery. You must really stick with it to the top to get the rewarding view. It should take around an hour if you have decent fitness. We saw quite a few people running up the hill so it seems to be a popular training track for locals.

Tobins Track is an easy but long and gentle rise up from the Arrow River. The surface is rough and boots are recommended but the going is easy - expect cyclists to share the route with you.
Views get better with the height - over Arrowtown and towards the Crown Ranges and the Remarkables.
Allow a good 2 hours to walk to the summit of the track.

A continuous climb up a a 4WD track which takes you up to a plateau (above the zigzag road of the Crown Range). Be aware that the times indicated on the sign by the Arrow river are too optimistic (we are keen hill walkers and usually ace the given times but not on this one). At the top are two seats where we had lunch. Great views over Arrowtown, Lake Hayes, and Wakatipu. We came down the Tobin's Drop which as the name implies brings you straight down to the Arrow river. This is a rough track and quite steep so most would be advised to return on the 4WD track.
