This is a must see attraction when in the Southland of the Southern Island of New Zealand. What a wonderful museum that tracks the history of the region from Maori times through the gold rush era through to modern times. An astounding collection of displays...More

If you are taking the time to check out the village and the immediate surroundings such as the Chinese huts, some of the tracks and, of course, the current dwellings of the locals, then a visit here will be highly informative. Small museums often struggle...More

We were absolutely charmed by this museum, at the end of the main street in picturesque Arrowtown. It manages to recreate a real sense of what Queenstown and Arrowtown were like for early settlers, in a clever way that is utterly engaging for all age...More

The museum is awesome. It takes you back in time like a time machine and you get to see the contemporary history of the place for only 10 NZ $ per person. My 8 YO son loved it and had lots of fun.

We really enjoyed our visit to this lovely museum. It’s also an absolute bargain considering the range of exhibits on display. I really loved how the original building had been so sympathetically modified to accomodate the museum, I could actually smell horses in the area...More

For a gold coin donation got to see a fantastic exhibition on indigenous people from many lands. Very informative. Interesting. Sculptor added points of interest to statues by adding items he'd been given e.g. coat whilst staying with a particular tribe. Finishes January.

We found this museum to be well worth the visit and highly recommend it, especially with children. It is very informative and educational on the pioneering/goldrush history of Arrowtown. Kids loved it. Allow about 90mins. Great bookshop. Very friendly staff.

Unfortunately we arrived near closing time could have spent much longer looking around this museum. Working in a hospital I found the old operating instruments very interesting.

We are fortunate that those medical instruments were donated to the museum by a local Doctor. Some of them are a bit frightening aren't they! We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your visit. J
