For a gold coin donation got to see a fantastic exhibition on indigenous people from many lands. Very informative. Interesting. Sculptor added points of interest to statues by adding items he'd been given e.g. coat whilst staying with a particular tribe. Finishes January.

The district museum is very thorough in covering all things Arrowtown. All the crafts, baking, brewing, blacksmithing, mining, etc are all covered in this museum. It doesn't look as large outside as it really is. We were incredibly impressed with what is collected and displayed...More

We found this museum to be well worth the visit and highly recommend it, especially with children. It is very informative and educational on the pioneering/goldrush history of Arrowtown. Kids loved it. Allow about 90mins. Great bookshop. Very friendly staff.

Unfortunately we arrived near closing time could have spent much longer looking around this museum. Working in a hospital I found the old operating instruments very interesting.

We are fortunate that those medical instruments were donated to the museum by a local Doctor. Some of them are a bit frightening aren't they! We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your visit. J

It looks tiny but there is a lot to read and see on the inside. We didn't leave enough time to do this little museum justice. Well worth the visit tho.

The museum was filled with a lot of history, providing a nice balance of artifacts and verbiage to read. Don't miss the downstairs "village" including an outhouse (be sure to go in!). It takes approximately 1.5-2 hours to do it justice but I highly recommend...More

Wandered into this small museum with low expectations and left feeling that we'd stumbled across a very special place indeed. Having recently visited New Zealand's National museum and New York's Museum of Natural History I would have to say that little Arrowtown's displays were on...More

The Lakes District Museum is not fancy, but it’s fun. Gives a great perspective on the region from Maori through now. Shows the ups and downs of development through narrative, film and recreations of life in 3D dioramas of scenes from the lives of the...More
