Worth the visit
Jan 2018 • Friends
Made our way down to the warbirds hanger today, luckily they had some of the planes getting ready and flying to tauranga.

The guys there are very dedicated to the planes and have a great wealth of information about them and the airport.

Highly recommend making the visit for a quite look around or twice a year they have a warbirds event which have planes from around the country.

Few aviation museums around the globe have as diverse a collection as the NZ Warbirds. Yes, you can go to such places in America or Europe where they have a huge collection but few countries the size of New Zealand hold such an impressive collection in one place, in one country. One should remember that these aircraft are not static displays that sit around and gather dust they are operational aircraft, owned by the members and flown by them. A day out at one of their Open Days is a must see for any aviation enthusiast.

I always enjoy visiting the NZ Warbirds Association's Visitors Centre. Very friendly and knowledgeable, helpful people who're always welcoming. And the displays and aircraft are excellent and seem to get better every time I visit. Plus there's always a good chance of seeing some warbirds flying, especially on a nice Sunday.

A great collection of aircraft and models.

We have been visiting the NZ warbirds collection over the years and have taken many overseas visitors there, it has grown steadily and is now a world class collection of aircraft. There are types from WW1 through to early jets with some iconic types such as Be 2c, Tiger Moth, Harvard, Ryans, Sabre and our beloved and much missed Skyhawk. A new feature is a diorama of a P-40 in a Pacific Theatre setting, you can almost feel the heat and hear the mossies! The volunteer staff are very helpful and happy to share their knowledge and enjoy hearing our tales as well. There is an extensive model collection on the mezzanine floor, (which is a great vantage point for photos) which will keep children of all ages amused for some time. You are sure to find a memento of your visit in the gift shop on site. If you are lucky on the day of your visit you may see an aircraft being moved and prepared for flight as most of the aircraft on show are airworthy. A great café nearby and an active airfield make for a very pleasant day out, something for everyone, you won't be disappointed. Check their website for opening times and open days.

World class collection, awesome people !

The NZ Warbirds Visitors Centre houses a large collection of mostly airworthy aircraft ranging from WW1 'fabric and wire', through WW2 'heavy metal' fighters and trainers and up to the jet age including an A4 Skyhawk. Access to aircraft is fantastic and there is plenty of light for good photos. Informative displays are spread throughout the museum, including an elevated mezzanine (also a great spot for photos). The museum is of a very high standard, especially given it is run almost entirely by volunteers, who are on hand to share their experience and knowledge with visitors. This not only enhances the visit but also (as an overseas visitor) was a great opportunity to meet some 'locals' ! Their is also a well stocked shop with a good range.

Highly recommended collection, don't miss it.

Absolutely Stunning. Unreal.
Oct 2017 • Family
Visited the NZ Warbirds Visitors Centre. This has recently had an upgrade, and to be honest, this "plane museum" is as good as any in the world.
Almost all the aircraft still fly regularly. You can get up real close to them. And you can talk to the actual pilots.
Aircraft: A4 Skyhawk, Aermachi, F86 Sabre, P40 Kittyhawk, P51 Mustang, Spitfire, Yak 52, Ryan STM, PT22, Be2. Also saw Strikemaster (flies), L39 Albatross (flies) and T28 Trojan.
Apparently, there's more WW1 stuff arriving: Albatross, Fokker Triplane, Sopwith Pup.
Coming back again! Fantastic display.
