About
There are few places in the world where you get the sense of land emerging from the ocean — where you can trace the contours of the land down below the waterline, where sky, land and sea are continuous — and New Zealand’s Paroa Bay Winery and Estate is one of these places. Featuring three superb villas, a boutique vineyard, and our coastal-inspired restaurant Sage — we ensure every aspect of luxury is plentifully provided for. The first of our luxury villas, Tarāpunga, is named after the local seabirds, and nests high above the bay. With floor to ceiling windows and an infinity pool on an expansive outdoor entertaining area, Tarāpunga truly brings the incredible scenery to the fore. Our second villa, Weka, is a smaller but beautifully designed residence, and available for reservation concurrently with Tarāpunga. Our third villa, Vineyard Cottage, sits amongst the vines of our famed winery and enjoys views of the beautiful rolling green hills of both vineyard and native bush.

This was part of our 25th anniversary celebration and we wanted to go somewhere special. Paroa Bay Winery did not disappoint. The food was top shelf and service to matched! Highly recommend going to Sage restaurant if you're looking for a fine dinning experience when staying/visiting in the winterless north

Stayed in the off-grid vineyard cabin. Superb experience and a serious bargain.. stunning view of the vineyard and we loved how intimate the feel was in the cabin with the wood fireplace and even went out into the hot tub to see the stars at night.
The fact that it also included a golf cart and a welcome bottle of wine was the icing on the cake. There was a bbq but we really took advantage of Sage restaurant being so close.. delicious dinners every night and then we just strolled back to our cozy cabin. Tons to do in the day along with the beach access they give you. Took my rod and caught and released a couple snapper just off the beach. Fantastic time and will 100% recommend to any couple. This is the right kind of getaway..

We went on 28 December after rescheduling from their Christmas Dinner. The site is easy to find, but is neither walkable from Russel nor accessible to public transport - car or Taxi (ample parking). The restaurant is located on a hilltop with a spectacular view north and east over the Bay of Islands. There is indoor and shaded outdoor seating. The menu has a limited number of items but the food was some of the best we had in NZ. Takes some work to make it child-friendly if you have a picky eater, but the staff was accommodating. The wine was excellent, paired beautifully with the food - we took some home. There were no tasting flight available with the dinner menu, alas, but the waiter gave us excellent recommendations based on the food we ordered.

We walked in and asked to do some wine tasting. Their website says "come to our cellar door today to sip our handcrafted NZ wines while enjoying the vineyard's heavenly atmosphere". Not the case. You can only try our wines if you are eating, apparently. The staff were rude and inhospitable. We had elderly parents and family members with us and we were told we couldn't stay as they were full. Yet there were many spare tables. Very snobby and rude. However can't rate Omata winery highly enough. Go there instead.

Last month I had the great fortune to stay at The Tarapunga villa at Paroa Bay winery. This is a luxurious accommodation, gorgeously furnished with stunning views of the Bay of islands from every corner of the house . The infinity pool invites you to jump in and stare at the view. The villa has a home cinema, tennis courts, a gym, Badminton, bicycles, Golf buggies which we used to admire the beautiful surrounding nature and manicured landscape of the winery and also to access the private beach. There is also an annexed villa that can accommodate another family or grown up kids. The place is perfect in every way(it even has, Sage, next door, the best restaurant in the area ). It’s a perfect Accommodation for a perfect holiday I had the time of my life. I highly recommend it.

Paroa Bay's Sage Restaurant has it all. The view looking out over The Bay of Islands and Pacific Ocean is breathtaking. The building whilst simple is elegant and tastefully designed and furnished. The food was the best we have experienced in Northland; delicious, fresh, appetizing and beautifully presented. We drank the Paroa Rose and Chardonnay which were both lovely. The service was charming and unpretentious. What a great spot!

I stayed at Tarapunga for a week with my friends and it was absolutely incredible. The views around the property are absolutely stunning and the atmosphere is so peaceful. I've never visited a place that is so perfect for having fun and relaxing. The property includes all of the amenities you could want including an infinity edge pool, hot tub, sauna, tennis court, golf course, putting green, badminton court, and a boat to explore the Bay of Islands. You can do all of this while enjoying the delicious wines, fresh oysters from the bay, and fruit from the farm. It really is paradise.

I went to Paroa Bay Winery with my sister and mate and we brought provisions for a makeshift platter after our tasting. We sat inside and were guided through 5 different wines to taste and given knowledgeable information on each on. Then we picked our favorite and sat outside in a grassy area at a picnic table to enjoy the food we brought and our favorite wine. It was so relaxing and fun! I would highly recommend it any day!
