Excellent experience
We had an excellent tour guide (Sheryl). She brought the local history to life with her stories and the tour pace was just right. There were some spectacular sceneries. Recommend you do this tour first before you wander through Russell.

An hour of first class local knowledge
Friends had recommended this tour when they visited Russell a month ago. We arrived off the ferry from Paihia, and straight ahead of us was the mini bus and its driver/tour guide Kerry. At the very reasonable cost of $30 each, we bought an hour of entertainment, historic information, beautiful views, and very interesting facts. Kerry has a wealth of local knowledge. We visited places we'd never have found our way to without a car, including Flagstaff Hill, and Long Beach. Russell has a fascinating and turbulent history which came alive from Kerry's stories. Possibly the nicest town in the world ?
Prior to Auckland & now Wellington, Russell was the first capital of N.Z. (not many people know that) ! We were met off the boat by our driver/guide who was an aged gentleman, probably older than myself, yet he was most articulate with all his descriptions of what we saw on our one hour tour. You didn't need longer. Russell is simply stunning. As I said in my title and I have been on this earth 68 years, it compares more favourably than anywhere else I have been in the world to date. The old fashioned small town is a microcosm of simple beauty. Everything about it is somewhat unique. From the church to the museum to the shops in the streets it filled my heart with joy. Sad fact is real estate is so expensive I couldn't afford to live here !!!…
