Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fabulous afternoon as soon as Mark picked us up from our accommodation. Ake Ake winery activated the tastebuds for both boutique wines and delicious limoncello. Lunch at Marsden Estate was fresh and flavoursome, followed by an offering of another 'full range' wine tasting.
Great food and wine onboard and feeling very content, we headed back to our accommodation stopping along the way at Living Nature for a quick bit of skin care shopping. A fabulous time and connect of beautiful Aotearoa showcased by Rogue Pony tours. Next day we were met at the wharf by Mark in his stunning Mustang, the drove us to the indoor studio where we let our inner creativity explode with some gentle metal bashing to create pieces of art for both our ears - and our walls. Honestly, I couldn't recommend this more.
Thanks Mark and Tui for a wonderful two days!

This private Custom Wine Tour was the highlight of my trip, which is saying a lot since I was on a World Cruise. Mark and Tui deftly arranged and rearranged the schedule to accommodate the ship's changing arrival/departure times. The eleven of us were met at the tender pier, and traveled in two jeeps and a Mustang, allowing us to change seats at every stop, tasting grape varieties and wines not previously encountered and visiting wineries not usually included on tours because of inaccessibility. Mark and Tui were delightful, informative host, and I hope to repeat the tour in 2022.

Thanks, ya'll, for a magical day !!

Thanks L. for your great review . We are so happy that all the organising you did from your end to get the group together was worth it. It was a pleasure to introduce a seriously keen bunch of wine connoisseurs to the varied Northland varieties. We loved the guess the wine without tasting it while at Paroa Bay Winery and the lunch at Omata seemed to be a hit. See you in 2022! Go Rogue, Tui and Mark.

We‘ve booked a wine tour with Mark and had a fabulous time with him. We enjoyed his company as well as his stories, humour and knowledge about his home country a lot. As a bonus he even acted as our personal taxi driver on our last day in Russell. Thanks so much Mark for making the start of our NZ trip an unforgettable one.
Hope to see you soon again, Max & Ines

Thanks Max and Ines, changing the Backroad Russell wine tour to avoid the weddings in the area and going to Marsden Estate turned out perfect as your dinner date on your last day was to the missing winery. So glad that your meal at Sage Restaurant was a hit! Go Rogue, Mark.

It was also great that your group had booked two different vehicles, the V8 Mustang and a Jeep Wrangler, so you could swap around for varying experiences.

We had the opportunity to explore some of the area with Mark and whilst the weather was pretty naff, he modified the tour to make best use of our time and show us all the best bits. I learned much about the history of the place and went to places that I never knew existed. Highlights were the Kauri forest and the delicious lunch. Mark's knowledge and relaxed style made it enjoyable and he didn't just stick to a script - he found out our interests as we went and took us to the best places.

WOW... We had the best Family experience on our tour in a Ford Mustang. Mark is very knowledgeable and told us about the culture and the people in the areas as we visited. Rogue Pony personalised a tour around what we wanted to visit. Our teenager Daughter had the best experience and stills talks about it. Highly recommend a tour with Rogue Pony. A big thank you to Mark and Tui.

Thanks Sandra, showing you and your family the sights that you wanted on a perfect day in the bay with the top down was a pleasure. I loved that you all took turns to change seats between stops to fully enjoy the different wind in your hair experiences. Go Rogue! Mark (and Tui)

Coming off a cruise ship, we booked a 4 hour Jeep tour with Rogue Pony. Mark, the owner, and our driver, Dani, were waiting for us right at the dock as we got off the ship. Dani sat down with us and asked what we wanted to do and where we wanted to go. This, combined with her own knowledge of the area, resulted in a fun and eventful day for us. We drove to many beautiful places and saw many wonderful things. And because we had the Jeep to ourselves, Dani stopped anywhere we wanted to stop - to take pictures, or just to enjoy the surroundings. Our Rogue Pony tour was SO much better than being on an impersonal big bus tour with many other passengers where you can only go and stop where they want to take you. We had a really great day with Rogue Pony and our Jeep and our driver, Dani.

I am so pleased that Dani was able to make your wedding anniversary a great day. She also enjoyed customizing your tour so you ended up at the Duke of Marlborough in Russell by the sea.

We thought we had pre-booked a jeep tour only to realize I did not have an email confirmation. However, we walked into the Paihia waterfront where the cruise ship free shuttle bus dropped us off and found that Rogue Pony tours had an opening. We were in a new air conditioned bright purple jeep. Mark was our guide. We first went to the seaside town of Opua and out onto the commercial wharf. Here we saw the car ferry to Okiato and the location of the first capital of New Zealand across the Veronica Channel. We then drove through Opua Marina having to dodge a houseboat being towed along the road. Then up a forest covered back road to the lookout point overlooking the harbour and out to our cruiseship. Here we put the top up on the Jeep because the next leg was through the unsealed roads of the Opua Forest. Up into the hills and past kauri trees, farmland, elf-moulting sheep, horses and cows. We then went down from the hills past ponga (silver fern trees) and beehives to the Main Highway 1, where we opted not to go to Kawakawa and the Hundertwasser toilets (which now I wish we had seen but we were getting hungry). So we travelled through the town of Moerewa for a quick stop at Henry Williams’ beautiful wooden Anglican church. Lunch at the very picturesque Marsden Estate Winery was next where I had delicous lamb loin and the boys had rare tuna. After a few glasses of Chardonnay we were off to Rainbow Falls along a unexpectedly flat road. The falls lived up to their name as a rainbow was visible in the spray at the foot of the falls. We also managed to walk a small section of the Te Araroa trail that extends the entire length of the NZ. This was alongside the remains of the culvert used by the pioneers to generate electricity for the trading post in the Kerikeri Basin.

Next was a quick photo stop at the Kerikeri Basin for a view over to the Stone Store and Kemp house, the oldest building in NZ, before making our way south again. We called down Old Wharf Road to have a quick look at the much smaller Haruru Falls to compare with Rainbow falls on the way back to Paihia. We stopped at Seahorse Souvenirs ( a little better prices than right in town) to buy a hat and local Manuka honey. Mark dropped us back to the cruise ship jetty so we didn’t have to take the shuttle bus back to the ships tender. It was a full day of sights and Mark gave excellent commentary, If you have time the Waitangi grounds treat house is with in easy walking distance right at the cruise drop off point.
I recommend you pre-book as they only have 2 jeeps.

I am so glad you found us and we had a Jeep tour available for you on the day! A relaxing lunch is always high on the priority list, especially at such a great winery. I hope the rest of your trip to NZ went as well.

Mark took us for a half day adventure around Russell and Paihia in the Mustang and it was a fantastic day drinking good wine and eating good food. Absolutely recommend for a different way of exploring the area without needing to worry about getting from A to B. Cheers Mark!

Thanks Alexx, it was great to meet you and get you out and about in the Mustang, a total different way of traveling rather than the camper van, especially with wine involved! Hope you have a great trip around the South Island when you get down there. Cheers, Mark.

Hi Sigalit, we agree, taking the convertible V8 Mustang around the backroads of the Bay of Islands is not a bad way to travel. Your husband had a great time in the back seat taking photos!
