Not to be confused with The Nelson Market, held on a saturday, as many posts here seem to have done, Nelson Farmers Market, held on a wednesday only in Kirby lane, is nothing to write home about. I love farmers markets and have frequented many around the word, especially in Europe, France and Italy in particular. I have spent many hours happily filling my shopping basket while wandering about these cultural gems. The Nelson farmers market is not worth making a special trip for. Very small with very limited product, it really is the poor cousin of farmers markets. Five minutes from end to end is all it takes to peruse the 10-12 stalls. Dont get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the produce on offer at all, but there is almost no competition and little choice. The Blenheim farmers market an hours drive away in Marlborough is a better bet. If you are in Nelson on a wednesday and need to kill five minutes then do have a look or spend an extra five minutes in bed.

Right in the heart of Nelson township this happy place with lots to buy is a gem. With a good eclectic mix of arts and crafts and fruit and vegetables and food there is something for everyone. Don’t forget your re-useable bag for all that shopping!

We lucked out and happened to be in Nelson on a Wednesday when their local farmers market was being held. Lots of interesting locally grown and produced fruits and vegetables, in addition to some organic type household products. Food and snacks can be purchased from food 'trucks' (trailers). Fun to browse

This place was heaving at the seams when we visited as it was just after Christmas. Some great local crafts and produce and not ridiculous prices. Fabulous food offerings so we ended up going back for lunch! Well worth a visit if you like local markets.
