R. R. Tolkien's famous The Lord of the Rings™books. History Established in 1968 The Jens Hansen Gold and Silversmith Workshop was borne from passion of creativity and experimentation. The first Nelson workshop, set up in 1968, was in the front room of the family home at 8 Alton Street. This quickly became a centre for the local arts community, where Jens's talent, energy, enthusiasm, and outspoken personality drew people in from all over the world, and where Jens trained, worked with and influenced many of New Zealand's leading contemporary jewellers.Meet the Business Owner: Halfdan H.Halfdan is Jens Hansen's elder son, and has been director of the store for the last five years. He is committed to continuing his father's legacy, particularly when it comes to the Movie Ring that his father Jens and brother Thorkild worked on for the original The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy.

My fiance and I purchased the replica one ring for his wedding band this weekend. We travelled to Nelson specially to try on the rings and get him sized. It was worth every second and the assistance we received from Lee & Supriya made our day. They were wowed by my own engagement ring that was gifted to my from my grandad and they could tell straight away the type of unique stone that is in my ring which showed their impressive knowledge of jewellery. They also made a huge effort to personalise this experience for us and showed genuine interest in our needs which just made the whole day perfect. It was a really special day for us and a huge purchase in our life which was made with so much ease due to our help from both Lee & Supriya. Thank you so much for going above and beyond for us!

Purchased the 'basic' tungsten LOTR replica ring and could not be happier. The weight, the feel and quality blew me away after a beautiful unboxing. Amazing attention to detail on everything and will definitely recommend to everyone. Worth every penny - especially since the price was more than reasonable. This is a proper ring that has expert craftmanship and it shows, not some mass produced crap off a chinese production line sold en masse. The fact that its also made by the people who made the original adds those extra points for authenticity. Also to note i live in another country, and still received the item within 7 days during a global pandemic - what more could you want??

I have ordered The One Ring Tungsten replica from them and it arrived surprising fast. It was very well covered and protected. The ring itself is extraordinarily beautiful.

We came here when the Children's father was with us in 2010. One child was 7 mths then and the other 1.5 yrs old back then. The LOTR Ring was proudly on display in the window. Thought it would be nice to show them where they visited with their father as we haven't returned since then. However, we were told that the ring is no longer on display and it is only shown as a thank you to people who buy something from the LOTR section. Was then shown the LOTR cabinet and kindly told they start at $100..... so if you are expecting to see it still in the window. It's not there.
The jewellery however was as magnificent as I remembered when my husband was with us.

The service and workmanship here is amazing. I wanted an 18ct diamond ring made to give as a New Year surprise. I got to pick the design and they sourced a wonderful diamond. Over a few months they produced something exquisite. My partner loves it very much. They are designers and manufacturers of the highest order.

I’ve worked with staff on multiple occasions and they were so amazing to work with. We are 1000% pleased.

There is no rating high enough for this fabulous shop! My first visit was 7 years ago when I visited NZ from the US. My NZ friends and I were met by Tanya, who was especially helpful and also great fun. She helped me pick out a beautiful silver and amethyst ring, which I have cherished. Last year, to my dismay, I lost the ring. After some time passed, I emailed Jens Hansen with my tale of woe. To my surprise, I head immediately from Tanya! She remembered our visit and offered to have the ring recreated. Within a couple of weeks, it arrived and is as beautiful as the original! Not only is Jens a creative genius, but his staff is more than exceptional. If you are in Nelson, you MUST visit.

My girlfriend and I were visiting New Zealand on a month-long trip from Canada. To make it extra special I wanted to propose to my Lord of the Rings fan with a ring from the jeweler who designed the One Ring!
Left trying to order a custom ring via e-mail from many time zones away, I was expecting the experience to be very difficult and lengthy. When I first contacted the team at Jens Hansen they were almost as excited about our story and the possibility of a successful proposal as I was! The team was excellent at coordinating how the proposal would take place and ensured that we were able to capture the moment both on video and with pictures.
When deciding on the design, the staff were very creative and accommodating as I went back and forth with design ideas (and unfortunately found out the long way that they know what they're doing and I should stick to my day job rather than come up with designs myself ha!). The whole process was extremely easy, and the final ring was absolutely stunning! The team at Jens Hansen made our special moment seamless and memorable and I don't think I will ever be able to thank them enough for helping me out with such an important step in my life!
To top it off, we were given a voucher to the restaurant down the street to enjoy a glass of wine and let the special moment sink in. Small details like that are certainly unexpected but definitely appreciated and it truly shows how much they care about their customers and how willing they are to go above and beyond for our satisfaction!

When I first got my eyes on The Nelson Ring via the website, I immediately fell in love with it. I love the country New Zealand *even lived there for 6 months. Therefore, I decided to treat myself with the lovely ring for Christmas. The customer service was excellent. The ring came quickly via post wrapped up nicely. And when I had in my hand the first time, I even fell more in love it as it is much more beautiful as on the picture. The art work here is brilliant. I am a jewellery fan so I can tell a little bit if something is done good. And it is here the case. It is done absolutely stunning. I will now wear it every day as a memory of this stunning country.
