Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Right from the start of booking our flight with Sylvie we knew we were in good hands! Positive, professionail, friendly service. We were booked to fly on Wednesday however the weather wasn’t the greatest so we were able to move it to Friday, glad we did! Charlie was our pilot, very professional with a top personality and great sense of humour. My fiancé, our son and myself chose to fly from Nelson landing in Awaroa near the lodge for lunch. We enjoyed a nice walk while there and some time/swim on the beach before flying back to Nelson. Beautiful flight, stunning views, we felt safe the entire time. We all thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend Helicopters Nelson. We will definitely return. Thanks guys!

July 2013, as part of my family's awesome Lord of the Rings Adventure in NZ, we had the opportunity to take a ride with Reid Helicopters to visit to LOTR Fellowship sites - Mt. Olympus (South of Rivendell "Crebain from Dunland") & Mt. Owen (The Dimrill Dale "Fellowship mourns the loss of Gandalf"). Both of these sites are in the mountains and not accessible other than by helicopter. On way, we flew over sheep stations, mountain peaks, valleys, and rivers - a view of NZ that few get to experience. While it was sunny and warm in Nelson, up the mountain it was snowing and cold, but simply gorgeous.

We had a fantastic time. The two LOTR sites were worth the trip. My son and daughter had never flown in a helicopter. Bill, our pilot, was fantastic and set them at ease. My daughter described the trip as "5 seconds of terror and 3 hours of awesome!" And yes, she would do this trip again.

Highly recommended!

Fantastic for Lord of the Rings Fans to see and visit some of the iconic - and not easy to reach -filming locations. Pilot was very knowledgeable about the locations and behind the scenes stories. I recommend making extra time available as weather can be an important factor so you don't miss out. Our original trip was rained out, but we were able to go the next morning since we kept that morning open - just in case!

We asked to fly to the Blue Lake then back down the Richmond Ranges and over to Mapua and Brightwater to view our own private properties from the air. Pilot was fine very friendly and chatty. We asked for an extra 1/2 hour to be tacked onto flight to cover Mapua and Brightwater. Firstly the "hover" over the Blue Lake was disappointing as we might have been there a couple of minutes and just circled and left. Shadows from mountain were on Lake and we didn't really get a "good" look. The landing was enjoyable on the back of the Richmond Ranges. Very interesting where we did fly but when it came to the Mapua/ Brightwater viewing we were out of time and couldn't really look at our places especially the Brightwater one as it was in the "flight path" of nelson airport. No one told us that and I was very clear where we wanted to go. Secondly the time thing I really feel a bit short changed as we didn't get what we were sold. It cost us another $800 for the Mapua/Brightwater flight time. When we got back we were put out of chopper and that was it. ...the finish was flat. Note there business is flying choppers not the P.R. stuff like after, perhaps a chat on how it was or a cuppa..we definitely felt left/dumped, a shame considering they promote the tourism side of chopper flying. Did we enjoy the flight, yes just felt a little mislead and at the end a little let down. Be VERY clear with your expectations and hopefully your experience will be great.

We left the itinerary to Toby and he delivered a phenomenal trip. Tea on a beautiful remote island, stunning scenery, a mountaintop experience (and NZ mountaintops are spectacular), a wonderful gourmet lunch, and great companionship. Can’t wait to come back

Thank you for making this birthday surprise so utterly memorable. I cannot believe our luck at securing Reid Helicopters for the spectacular Abel Tasman tour.
Every single thing Reid Helicopters did for us was right on pointe. With Peter and I both having previous careers in aviation we are easily put off by brash operators and big egos. The experience today was like being shown around by a friend, a person who loves her country and her business, plus is sooo comfortable in the pilot seat, it shows!
Well done to you all and good luck for the future.
Highly recommend Reid Helicopters to anyone wanting a professional, educational, knowledgeable scenic flight over this pristine part of the world.

Thank you Linda. It was a pleasure having yourself and Peter onboard with us. And yes, we love show-casing our beautiful region and everything it has to offer. We do hope you see you onboard with us again in the future! All the best Toby and Rachael Reid

Toby Reid and his team are extremely professional and ensured that we were collected on time from a remote West Coast location and delivered safely to Nelson. It is so heartwarming to have commercial operators act on trust under what were for us somewhat stressful circumstances. I can't recommend Toby and his team more highly they certainly know their business, have excellent equipment and knowledge of the area and local conditions.

Reid Helicopters is a family-run business that handled the people, food and gear for the production of The Lord of the Rings. They have two large and two smaller helicopters with extremely professional pilots. We took three of their tours, one to fish on a rock off the coast and then go to an island lodge where they cooked our fish and then off for a wine tasting in the Marlborough region; the second to be dropped off on the Heaphy Trail and hike for a while, enjoy a great picnic lunch, and fly back along the Abel Tasman National Park coastline; and the third to take us to the Farewell Spit for a land tour and then to return us via incredible mountain views and some of the Lord of the Rings sites. New Zealand calls out for helicopter tours where you really get to see the incredible mountain ranges, lakes, oceans, and vineyards. Toby Reid and his father, Bill, and Hamish are top flight pilots and great folks to get to know.

Our trip out with Toby was superb. Even the views from the hill top heliport were stunning before we started but once we were airborne for our mountain top trip, the vista was truly breath taking. We enjoyed a welcome hot drink on the very top of Ben Nevis as we took in the amazing panorama all around us. An amazing trip and highly recommended for a special occasion.
