There are several exhibition rooms here - but not large number of exhibits. Local art and New Zealand artists on show. This was our second visit (we went there a couple of years ago) and the building has been extended. Staff very helpful.

A very good space for an art gallery, just next to the Queen's Garden pond. Lighting is good the space comfortable and they have a good coffee shop with nice atmosphere and good food.

Many beautiful paintings here but many interesting ones as well. Lovely setting by the creek and offers a nice cafe to relax in. Worth visiting.

This was our first visit back to the Gallery since its upgrade. We were greeted by very friendly and helpful staff (which I must add were volunteers) we thought that the contrasting areas divided into 4 main spaces worked well. The architect has done extremely well incorporating a mix of the old and the new. The Suter café is now... More

The Gallery in its new premises has a good selection of permanent pieces plus art for sale by regional artists. It is nice to see it all displayed well now , and its location, with cafe, next to the delightful gardens is lovely. There is a good selection of high level pieces for sale in the shop. Well worth a... More

Currently free entrance to the remodelled gallery. It's been extended and renovations have included opening up roof space so that you can view the architectural details and see windows otherwise only seen from outside and at a distance. Exhibition of works from the Suter collection, and also works showing from members of the Suter Art Society. What I really like... More

We had a few hours of down time and went to the gallery for a bit of peace and quiet and look at the art works and then on the way out had coffee in the delightful cafe as we left.

This gallery has been around forever, with I thought a great name, but I was lukewarm about it...it looked like it was closing, people a tad indifferent..

I read this was recently renovated in 2016 so was keen to visit while briefly in Nelson recently. Gallery was very pleasant with 4 main spaces. Ambiance is contemporary NZ with helpful, enthusiastic staff happy to answer any questions. It also has a great little movie theatre and café with good views over the beautiful adjacent Queens Gardens along with... More

The distinction between an art museum and an art gallery is not often made in New Zealand, but on our visit today it was one-third museum with a room of representative New Zealand works and two-thirds gallery with recent works from local artists up for sale. The latter was probably not what we had expected but at least it's good... More
