Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My family and I were in Nelson to have a memorial service for our mother who died recently, it was held at the Tasman Bay Cruising Club and afterwards we wanted to go to Haulashore Island to remember both my mum and dad (who died in 1986) who both loved going to the island in their wee dingy. Bruce picked us up at the boat ramp near the Cruising Club, took us to the island, told us to take our time on the island and text him when we were ready to return back to the boat ramp. In all my communication with The Ferry they were very professional and prompt, Bruce was happy to work out a solution that suited us (ie: being picked up at the boat ramp), so would definitely recommend The Ferry and the service they provided. Thanks Bruce :)

Thank you for your kind words. It is always a pleasure to ferry people around our beautiful harbour.

We used Bruce's ferry service for a 4-year old's birthday party. Bruce was very responsive in our communications leading up to the event and very helpful on the day. The island has a picnic table, fun nature for kids to safely explore, and was enjoyable for kids and adults alike.

Knowledgeable tour guide to enhance the experience of taking transport to Hualashore Island and visiting the Nelson lighthouse.
We did this experience as a family with young children and grandparents all onboard and everyone enjoyed the trip. We were lucky enough to see seals before being left on the island to enjoy our self brought picnic and then toured around the port before docking back along Rocks Road.

You would think that living in this city for 21 years I would have used this ferry before, but in fact yesterday was the first time. I got taken from the dock off Haven Road to the Cut end of the boulder bank and walked up the boulder bank to meet the rest of the family who had walked from the base of the bank. We then walked back towards the Cut, exploring the lighthouse interior and then got picked up by the ferry and returned to the dock, to complete a very enjoyable day
Robin, our ferry captain, was knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife, extremely punctual and a wonderful guide. I can’t recommend him enough

This is the second time i have done the harbour, marina and lighthouse cruise. its just fantastic. the last time was over 6 years ago and i enjoyed it just as much this time. Seeing the working harbour, marina, haven, boulder bank, haulashore island from the water and then climbing up to the top of the lighthouse and the fantastic views. standing on the top of a 160 historic building and the amazing sight is recommended, everyone should do it

We had just the best day out on the water visiting the lighthouse on the Boulder Bank and Haulashore Island. Our guide was extremely flexible about when we wanted to be picked up and dropped off at each stop and gave a great history of the area. Cannot recommend enough!

Hands down THE best outdoor experience on offer in Nelson city. Where else can you get ferried safely to an historic lighthouse then let off and thrown the keys so you can have a true adventure by yourself?! Bruce was amazing and after some essential but brief instructions he left us to explore by ourselves and we had a ball doing so! Unlocked the 2nd oldest lighthouse in NZ and climbed all through and over it. Beach combed, found some small bits of 'treasure' from lighthouse keepers past amongst the pebbles. Got views of Nelson and the port that you dont get from anywhere else and generally felt like a bunch of kids with the place to ourselves to enjoy. Ages 81, 50 and 30 - all satisfied ;) MAGIC! Bruce is a superb captain and guide and a pleasure to deal with. 5 Star experience for a really great price!

Bruce and Robin greeted us at the dock in their small ferry. They took us to the lighthouse and gave us the key.. We went to the top on our own and OH THE VIEW! Apparently there are more expensive way to get to this lighthouse, but Bruce and Robin are THE BEST!

If you're visiting Nelson, be sure not to miss Bruce Robertson's Haulashore Island Ferry. My wife and I had a wonderful couple hours cruising the harbor, enjoying the lighthouse and its great view of Nelson, learning about the unusual Boulder Bank that protects the harbor, and a little picnic on Haulashore Island. We were looking for something fun and different, and had the good luck to find Bruce's small ferryboat docked in Wakefield Quay. Five stars!!!!

I went with a group of Camera Club members on a dawn field trip to the Lighthouse. A wonderful morning. When I got back to shore I discovered that I had lost an expensive telephoto lens from my backpack. The owner arranged to meet me back at the wharf in half an hour. When I arrived he was accompanied by his wife and daughter. "Extra eyes" he explained. We found the lens, which would have been covered by the incoming tide in under an hour. Then he refused to accept his minimum charge for the extra trip (I was his only passenger).
I call that truly superior customer service.
