Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

So many talented people .... we found this place unexpectedly as we wandered down Trafalgar St.

Arty Nelson is a gem of a shop, showcasing a group of fabulously talented locals. Well laid out with lots of choice all in a great location. The artists run the shop and are hugely knowledgeable about not only their own art but all of those artists on display. Great place to find that memento of your Nelson visit. Highly recommended.

I remember this anonymous little space from an earlier visit to Nelson. Back then it did not have a name and I think I may have been one of the first customers in the space. Art was still propped up against the walls, the credit card system was not yet in place and there was a sense of "let's cross our fingers and hope for the best" in the air.
It was here that I was introduced to the art of Sirpa - a Finnish artist who now makes her home in New Zealand. Her work is colorful and whimsical and I could not help but smile looking at it. So tossing airline regulations to the wind, I purchased a print that reminded me of the epic hikes that I had while in New Zealand.
Today that once bare walled space is known as Arty. Its walls are covered in the art of Sirpa as well as so many others in what is a co-operative gallery representing artist working in a variety of media.
This trip found me admiring the artwork of Roz Speirs who works with glass. Her colorful fused glass art is unique and affordable. Fortunately for me, she was onsite to help me find what is sure to be the perfect gift. I was so grateful that I bought two.
Pictures are not allowed in the gallery but then the pictures would not be able to do justice to the works or the energy of the artists who staff the gallery.
If you appreciate art and the creative process, then make certain to visit Arty when in Nelson. Just make sure to leave some extra room in your suitcase.
