Had an amazing day with Cory, he was super knowledgeable and put us on some great fish.
I had really struggled to catch trout over here in NZ on a fly, and my girlfriend didn’t catch a single one. So our objective was to finally get her onto her first fish and get me to learn a few tricks to be more successful in the future. Cory managed to do both, getting my girlfriend to catch 5 fish overall and me on some really nice big ones.
Honestly, fishing with Cory for just one day made me a much better fly fisherman overall, and I’ve finally been able to consistently catch realz nice trout on all my outings here in New Zealand since fishing with him.
If you’re planning a fishing trip to NZ, I definitely recommend a few days fishing with Cory in the beginning!

Wow. What an Amazing 5 Day Trip to the South Island of NZ with our Guide Hans and Southern Latitude Guides. The whole experience was fantastic, from the great communication and information provided by Nans from the outset, through to Hans being as good a Guide as one could ask for. Patient, Knowledgeable and super easy to get along with. Lost count of the amount of PB Brown Trout we caught.
We cant recommend Southern Latitude Guides and Hans more highly. Cant wait to get back there. Thanks Trent and Dave, Melbourne Aus.

Spent 3 days with Hans on a few different stretches of water. It was a really great time and would highly recommend. The communication from Nans throughout the booking process was perfect, especially since we were traveling in from another country. We also got some sunglasses and skins (must have for summer fishing) last minute and she was great with coordinating that as well! Hans was excellent with spotting the fish and giving us the ability to get a line in the water. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for an unforgettable experience.

I had the pleasure of spending a full day fishing with Blair, and it was an incredible experience from start to finish. Blair’s deep knowledge of the area and his expertise in fly fishing were immediately evident, and his patient, encouraging teaching style made the day even more enjoyable.
One of the highlights was learning how to cast a 16’ leader consistently. With Blair’s guidance, I not only improved my double haul casting but also managed to land a beautiful 4.5lb brown trout, despite a few getting away (which, I’m sure we’re all 6lbs+ ;-) ). His calm demeanor and thoughtful tips made the learning process seamless, even when I made mistakes.
Blair’s passion for fishing and his ability to tailor the experience to my skill level made it a truly memorable day. If you’re looking for a knowledgeable, personable, and skilled guide who knows how to make the most of a day on the water, I can’t recommend Blair enough. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or a beginner, you’re in great hands. I’ll definitely be booking with him again!

Manny was an excellent guide! He was patient teaching me the ropes while being able to coach and guide my, more experienced, husband! He was so knowledgable, friendly, and felt like I had known him for years. I would highly recommend Manny and Southern Latitude Guides for any fishing trip and would love to come back again!

Dear Nans,
Just wanted to thank you for helping orchestrate just a fabulous trip for Eric and I this past week in New Zealand.
First off, the itinerary was perfect. Three nights of camping, a day near Nelson and then three days of a helicopter fly-in (whittled down to two because of the weather) provided a nice variety and sampling of the region.
The fishing was epic at times and slow during some stretches. But we are fishermen and we understand that it’s not always going to be easy or go the way you’ve envisioned it in your mind. Nevertheless we each caught a “fish of a lifetime”. The low clear water, long leaders, wind and spooky fish certainly puts a premium on good casting. And, New Zealand definitely challenged our casting skills.
Thirdly (and probably most importantly), the guide selection was spot on. Our one day with Blair was very enjoyable and interesting. He’s an extremely knowledgeable, talented, enthusiastic and fun-loving guy and a blast to be on the river with.
We spent the rest of our week with Hans and he was simply awesome. He worked his tail off for us: driving all around the countryside, assisting with the fly-in, setting up camp and making delicious meals. He consistently put us on good fish to cast to. Hans possesses an uncanny fishing prowess and his ability to spot fish was continually impressive. He was persistent over feeding fish and often changed flies several times to facilitate the correct presentation. His tutoring style was a perfect blend of patience, persistence, constructive criticism and just the right amount of “tough love”. During our week with Han’s we shared lots of good stories, fishing experiences and some great laughs. Eric and I truly left the country feeling as though we had made a new friend.
Lastly, the beautiful scenery, gorgeous mountains & river valleys and crystal clear rivers were beyond imagination.
So that’s it for now. Hopefully we can return again in the future and give it another go. But in the meantime we have some great memories and an ample supply of things to day-dream about.

This was my 7th or 8th trip to New Zealand focusing on fly fishing and one of my most enjoyable! I fished once again with my great friend and guide Hans. Hans is such a wonderful guy and can spot fish in the water better than anyone I have ever been with. He is also the most hard working guide I’ve seen. We fished together 7 days and covered a lot of water and probably 5 miles or more of wading and hiking daily. This was an AMAZING time to fish! We caught probably 90% of our fish on dry flies! Over the 7 days we landed 44 trout 4-8 lbs and missed some others. Weather was beautiful. Nans with Southern Latitude helped immensely to coordinate the trip, along with her husband Mike. What an outstanding group of people and friends! I cannot recommend them all enough!

Southern Latitude Guides was amazing; Nans was amazing setting everything up; she was so attentive and responsive! The guide,Hans was impressive, he was professional, knowledgeable and was great at spotting fish! He put me on big fish!!! Great time spending the day with him!!

Amazing helicopter ride into the New Zealand back country out of Nelson to fly fish for 2 days. The scenery was incredible and I managed to catch some monster brown trout with a lot of help from my very patient guide, Blair. I would highly recommend Southern Latitudes Guides and getting into the back country made this an unforgettable experience for me.
