The Old Ghost Road track is up there with Aotearoa’s best, and the gourmet guides put the icing on the cake - almost literally. The track is long - 85km - but the experienced guides provide well for snacks, breaks and rests. The cost is very reasonable, including transport to and from track ends, food for 5 days, 4 nights’ accommodation, and expert support from the guides. Angus and Garrett were great company, and we had lots of laughs and learning along the way.

Huge shout out to Angus and Tom for being fantastic hosts/guides throughout our 5 x day 4 x night Heaphy Track walk in mid Jan. Nothing was too big a deal for these guys and the meals were sensational. Some in the party had done the Milford assisted walk and the Heaphy experience with Southern Wilderness was rated far higher. As for the walk , again with Angus and Tom's help it was able to be done with few concerns. And it is a stunning walk. Knowing the swimming holes along the way and other points to note was a bonus . We will be back for one of the other walks . Thanks guys!

Angus and Tom from Southern Wilderness gave us an amazing holiday on the Heaphy track. We did the five day gourmet tour and we had an absolute blast. The group was small (our two couples and two others from another family). The guides were relaxed and friendly and really knowledgeable about the track and the wildlife. The food is quite unbelievable and they have an incredibly slick operation. We enjoyed the DOC huts and of course the walk itself. Loved swimming whenever we could and there is more time for this because the food is taken care of. Doing the five day trip gives you two quite relaxed days in the middle and I would definitely recommend this. This trip is worth every cent and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Thanks Angus and Tom.

We had three days of adventure with Angus and Toni from Southern Wilderness over New Year 2022... what a delight from great customerised three days of walking (that were appropriately adjusted after one of our group turned their ankle, now we know they hadn't quite trained sufficiently), to fantastic local knowlwdge of forna and flora, excellent support for three hours after the turned ankle (and strapping), and indeed delicious nutricious lunches (that included for vegetarians)... highly recommended and would certainly love to go with them again...

6 of us hiked the Heaphy with Angus & Tom, who looked after us professionally and cooked heavenly food for us all along the Track.
Fun company, varied environments, and learnt all sorts of interesting things. Plus saw takahe at 3 of the huts!

Enjoyed an amazing time on the Heaphy Track with Angus & Tom from Southern Wilderness last week. The gourmet meals were phenomenal and a real treat after a day's tramping...not to mention the envy of the independent walkers in the DOC huts! It's a fantastic track with a change of stunning scenery each day and was made extra special by the company of a great group and amazing guides. Huge thanks to both Angus & Tom for a very memorable trip - we will be back!

I cannot rate Southern Wilderness highly enough. Angus and Tom were fantastic chefs, knowledgeable about the flora and fauna on the Heaphy Track and just generally great fun. While walking the track itself was an awesome experience, walking it with Southern Wilderness made it truly memorable. We will be back Angus and Tom!

They say an army marches on its stomach and having just completed 4 nights of superb lunches and dinners courtesy of Angus and Tom - we sure marched well! A real logistics exercise to surprise us each night with 3 course dinners (snack, mains and dessert) - it was a real credit to Angus and Tom (as sous chef and "mule") to make our Heaphy Track experience a special event. Thanks team !!
