Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Easy drive from Nelson. Lovely sandy beach but nothing else. Was a really windy day we visited so didn't walk here much looks like it would be a great beach for young children, but we didn't notice any toilets

If you are biking from the Mapua Wharf Ferry end, go right from the ferry and follow the estuary around until you get to the causeway. The track is well formed and easy. Bike out to the beach and have a swim then bike back to the ferry. Watch out for the native birds that nest along the beach and follow the signs. Allow 2-3 hours and enjoy the ride.

I love coming to this beach. It’s about half an hour travel from Nelson. The beach at self is very long and beautiful sand. Is a great place to have a walk you can also swim in the sea. Also a great place for barbecue and picnics.

We have been to this island a couple of times for walks. There is a lovely large and long beach to walk along - which is virtually deserted, apart from the oyster catchers. Great views and a lovely place for a tranquile and relaxing walk.

Really nice picnic facilities. We took a picnic along but other families were having a bbq. Was really nice to see such a clean picnic area. Had a lovely stroll on the gorgeous beach. Was a lovely farm day too.

White sandy beach with some driftwood. Cycle trails and lots of parking. Don’t have to take a ferry, you can drive across on the bridge. Closes at 8:30 pm.
Toilets, outdoor showers and picnic tables and bbq sites around.
Safe swimming beach and good for paddle boarding.

We hired E Bikes to follow the 58 Km round trip cycle shoreline path out to Rabbit Island. Great trip, mainly flat - but an E Bike makes it a joy to do, just for the fun of hitting Turbo on the slight uphills and whizzing along the great trails

Approximately a 30 minute drive from Nelson. A family friendly day out with plenty of picnic areas to choose from. Nice long beach perfect for an enjoyable stroll. Great for the kids to have outside time. Excellent spot for a family day out.
