A must call in if visiting Oamaru - the staff are knowledgeable and very helpful - they have plenty of stories to tell and are invariably cheerful. The movie of the town's history is a must see - it explains much of the reasons for the town's buildings. Recommend a visit

The i-Site is now permanently closed. Much of the function is now provided by Rose's General Store and Information at 5 Tyne Street. See Rose's Facebook listing (which is more current) or see their website.

We found this i-site very easily. It is perfectly situated in central Oamaru, within very easy access of historical town and cental business areas. Good parking outside. We were there on a very wet day in early February, desperate to find last minute accommodation. We were served by a very pleasant woman who has been speaking fluent German to the previous customer. She was most helpful, ringing around to find us accomodatrion and then securing a discounted price for us. We are so grateful for the wonderful service we received and this encouraged us to not hesitiate to visit further i-sites. However, Oamaru stood out as the best! Most pleasant service and the best location in thier town and wonderful space.…

We are glad you enjoyed it! Hope you have a pleasant journey in Oamaru and New Zealand!
I was walking through Oamaru on Christmas Eve with my little dog and a friend who lives there with hers and we were verbally abused by the woman at the Information Centre telling us our dogs were not allowed on the streets of Oamaru. No where we could see a sign and even if there was one what is wrong with walking our little dogs on the street. We were wanting to do some Christmas shopping but her attitude towards us made us decide not to bother. As there were two of us it would have been perfect for one of us to wait on the street with both little dogs while the other spent some money in Oamaru. Very very unwelcome to Oamaru attitude from this woman. I have since been to Waimate - what a difference - they welcomed my dog at the ISite and they even have signs up saying "Dogs Welcome". I will be staying there in future, not Oamaru. I think Oamaru needs to realise a lot of people are like me, and travelling around NZ in our campervans with our little dogs as companions. Yes I understand there are penguins that need to be protected but the shopping street is a long way from them.…

We are sorry to hear that! To know where you can walk your dog in Oamaru, the Waitaki Dog Control Bylaw 2014 is listing where dogs can and cannot be off lead. This policy can be found on the Waitaki District Council website, along with the map. Hope this can help!
