Outstanding and informative. Our guide, Annie Baxter had a wealth of knowledge and a passion for the place. She lived the experience, it wasn't just a period costume for workwear.
Very educational about the agricultural history of New Zealand.

Totara Estate is New Zealand's most historic farm situated in beautiful North Otago countryside where the sheep were killed for frozen mutton.

Visited on Waitangi day. Lots of people dressed up and some really informative talks. Just ask how to cross the field to climb up to the monument.

A really enthusiastic team at Totara is being held back by too much concentration on being the first NZ farm to send frozen lamb to the UK.More focus on the aspects of Totara as a great example of 19th c farming, curating and labelling the vast array of farm implements would help visitors have a better understanding and enhance what is a good but could be better visit.

Well worth a visit. Pull off the main road and get an insight into early New Zealand on a profitable farm.

Nice to look around a bit of famous history for New Zealand. If you are into farming then this is a must see. Always things to learn. Hard graft seems to be how it was before mechanization.
