I was looking for postcards (not easy!) and stumbled into this delightful old style bookshop. The shelves are labelled with exquisite detail and although I had no plan to buy I walked out with two books, wrapped in brown paper and tied with string! but before that, the "proprietor" in his appropriate costume wrote up my purchases in a huge old ledger book... with a fountain pen... the book had previously been used to record some unknown household's purchases showing that it was very old... how special that they are using up its empty pages!
what a delightful, unexpected trip into the past

Visiting oamuru for the night and walking around the old area was a great way to end the day. We found this wonderful bookshop, huge selection and lots of fun digging through. I brought a whole lot of 1950’s Agatha Christie’s thrillers, I have lots to read and they all have classic 50’s covers. Great shop

This is an excellent secondhand bookshop. It is well organised with a strong New Zealand section and the books are reasonably priced and in good condition. There are a number of quirky decorative features which make it a fun place to linger, and which are in keeping with the Victorian flavour of the quarter. Even to the tying up of our purchases with brown paper and string. PS There is another, larger, more specialised bookshop with a nautical theme nearby. This is also worth a visit.
