Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My wife and I were on an organized trip of New Zealand. We stopped in Kaikoura, where our Tour Guide recommended that we try some of the local Tenara cheese. It's made of goat's milk and is covered with grape vine ash. It's mild tasting with some creaminess. I enjoyed it.

This is small gourmet cheese shop.
Unless you are a gourmet cheese lover, you probably won't have much interest in this shop.

But good to just pop in to have a look since here.

Can recommend this nondescript little shop alongside the post shop in the main street - kaikoura cheese factory. Ash dusted goat Tenara, and, in our case, a 9-month aged smooth and tasty Te Morehu. Well worth looking for. Don’t expect to pay supermarket prices but a taste experience to remember. Excellent when Accompanied by crackers and a crisp, cold Yealand’s Sauvignon (fortunately there is a supermarket on the northern outskirts of town with wine, a vast range of crackers and water biscuits).

Stumbled on this place. What a fortunate stumble. Great range of cheeses produced on the premises and kept as cheese should be. Suspect the seller was the cheese master, he knew what he was talking about. The only problem was what to choose as it was to be eaten in a couple of days.

Nice selection of cheeses. We got a jar of the spicey Labneh which was very mild and Te Morehu and The Harnett. All were good, though the Labneh's seasoning seemed minuscule. Maybe my taste buds aren't sensitive enough. It's always interesting to try local cheese, breads and wines along with whatever local fruits and vegetables are in season. Hmmm... I'm getting hungry! Enjoy.

This small artisan cheese shop produces outstanding cheeses in the room behind the shop. Lovely handmade cheese with a range of flavours, we purchased Love & Fury, The Harnett and Labneh and all were amazing!!! They also stock a range of local deli meats and bread. You can also visit the cheese room and sample the produce. Even if you don't like cheese this is a really interesting little shop to visit.

My family and I assuaged our disappointment over the weather with some delicious cheese tasting at this artisanal cheese shop. I appreciate the care that they take in making small batches of really wonderful cheese. They were very generous in providing samples so that we could choose with knowledge. Only wish that I had bought more.

This is a little cheese factory right on the main street in Kaikoura township. There was a good selection of cheeses made on the premises (you can watch through the window behind the counter) and some product from other South Island Cheese makers. There are also other artisanal products there for purchase - olives, cured meats, crackers, pastes, pates etc.
This is the epitome of one of the main delights of touring the upper reaches of the South Island - the glorious and varied food and drink production.
A lovely helpful, chatty lady presding. Such a nice visit.

Oh Wow - Love and Fury has to be the best ever new cheese. Such softness, rich and oh so flavoursome, combine with the oat baked biscuits bought in store, you’ll be in heaven for a while until your next visit. Truely world class excellence!!
