Our pilot Edward gave us a very interesting 15-20 min introduction about the whales in Kaikoura and why they are especially passing by there. After a short safety introduction we started the flight, which itself is worth the money in my opinion (if you have...More

The flight was a once in a lifetime experience.. we were lucky enough to see two whales, one of whom hung around for quite a while. Seeing such magnificent creatures on their own turf was a magical moment which we won't forget any time soon....More

We think this 30 minute flight is probably the best way to see the whales. You obviously don't get as close as the boats but the perspective is brilliant. We saw sperm whales and a humpback that obliged with two breaches as it played with...More

You can look at whales by boat, helicopter and plane. The boat only runs three times a day now due to the upheaval of the land under the sea which restricts the boats from getting in and out of harbour (they use to run ten...More

I got burned by the whale watch boat company as well. Thankfully Wings Over Whales offers a great and completely unusual experience. You get your own window seat and the pilot makes every effort to make sure everyone gets plenty of chances to see the...More

Boat gives you a closer encounter, but plane lets you see more area and greater chance of seeing whales and dolphins. I would base my decision on the time of season I was visiting.

I'm thinking about taking my 18 month old on this tour and wondering how suitable it would be and whether there would be any problems with this.
